  • i dont watch it, but i read loads about it on SJ… well, not specifically about big brother, more about “tracey” the “raver” on there….

well the sun has had a field day. whilst tracey has been alrite on the show (in fact, most of my mates think she’s ace, even tho they know fuck all about ravin) the sun has printed pictures of the smashed up OB car at that recent party, and has put a negative view of raves back in the limelight…

havin someone exposin free parties on somethin like big brother was never really gonna do much good for the scene’s reputaion in this current environment was it?

    any thought…?

you can’t stop someone exercising their free choice with their life – if she wants to go on big brother its her decision alone, I don’t think she intended at all to “stitch up” ravers..

the damage to the scene was already done by the people who smash up cop cars or leave rubbish or do too much drugs and become hopeless addicts and all this has been going on for years…

the party scene can’t expect to escape scrutiny from the media either, as lots of people regularly taking over others’ private property without permission every weekend to make a great deal of noise and take recreational drugs isn’t going to go unnoticed by wider society and creates a few areas of conflict, so it is newsworthy..

what does piss me off though is how many people who seem to know her have willingly sold info and photos about her to the tabloids, makes you wonder who you can trust sometimes.

yeah i completely agree… n your right the girl herself isn’t to blame, she’s apparently been ace on BB n one of the best people on there.

just it is more exposure… i mean, would the smashed cop car really have got into a national paper, pictures n headline story, without a raver bein on BB? it cant be good, n yeah the car itself was “stella-box-head”‘s fault, but havin a raver on BB has helped draw media attention

it could actually be good in someways dunno how but it could

Media attention about raves always picks up every summer, the NFU and councils tend to complain to both local and national media.

I think it has contributed to the Sun picking up on this story but then the person who sold the picture is more at fault.

the cop car incident happened long before Tracee entered the house and was widely reported on the BBC news – it had apparently also already been reported in the Guardian newspaper (where it is far more likely to piss off people who actually care about the state of society) long before the BB incident.

The damage was already done by that time :hopeless:

I may be wrong about this but the recent BB winner (Pete) didn’t attract too much negative attention to parties and he was a self confessed free party head with many friends on the brighton scene.

I agree that it’s probably drawn more attention to the problems that GL has pointed out but I also believe that it’s because of the recent events that they are finding it so easy to pick on the East of England.

You could argue that it’s because the Brighton area has been locked down, but the crews there on a whole seem to do things with a little more organisation and they often hold community events to demonstrate their positive side.

Not sure really where I’m going with this, but I suppose I’m agreeing with both boothy and GL

…that said, I never caught any of the stories on either Pete or Tracee, so I’m not really the best person to comment.

I don’t think Tracee herself poses any “threat” to the local party scene.

Although I still refuse to watch BB from what I’ve heard she comes across more as a non-threatening, humourous version of a raver..

and TBH the people who really are angry enough about raves to do something like call the Police or lobby an MP (the sort of things that led to the most recent backlash) and who have the power within society to make things happen aren’t the sort who tend to watch BB or to read the Sun newspaper.

its when actual reports on raves end up in the broadsheets or television media that most of the damage is done, obviously if people trash cop cars or leave trash and environmental damage behind there is going to be negative publicity, same as how we subject the activities of our leaders to scrutiny via the media (notice how Blair was whinging about his own press coverage!)

I’m a bit worried that East Anglia might be clamped down on for other reasons but Tracee gets scapegoated because of this.. :hopeless:

“it could actually be good in someways dunno how but it could”

Positive thinking funkydan, thats what we like to hear!

Well Ive been watching it while I get ready for work most mornings (honest! not at night!) and either they edit it all out or she doesnt talk much about it. Only thing Ive heard her say was when asked what she normally did on a sunday morning she said “havin it! In front of a FAT rig!” Generally she edited to be pretty boring, and Ive never heard her discuss drugs or any more details than that. I guess BB has to be seen to be really pc after all that racism trouble they had.

yes, and C4 will also get spanked hard by Ofcom if any programme of theirs is seen to be giving too much of a positive image of drugs – particularly one popular with younger people…

i havn’t actually seen any of it yet, but probably shes not chatting much because she’s the sanest of the lot! the majority of housemates they stick in are ridiculous, over the top and looking for fame, so i’d probably find myself becoming antisocial if they’re your only conversation!

sounds like shes promoting a fairly positive image, if anything it will just making more people interested in going to free parties… whether thats a good thing or not is another question…

wouldnt go that far… btw ive got a bet on with roger and kristina that if u ever say”im a raver, cheesey quaver” i have to cut my own bollocks off, so uve literally got my bollocks hanging in ur hand

the sun don’t half write some really shit articles, why do people buy this crap?!

lots of people stop going as early as their mid 20s (particularly if they end up having to work long hours or have got kids) so you always need new people to replace those who no longer go out as much..

TBH I think shes actually getting off quite lightly from the tabloids as well..

All the “better looking” younger girls there are also being stitched up by every one who has a bit of dirt they can dish about them (particularly if it has any sort of sexual connotation) and they are gonna get looked at first for any articles..
