Sounds like a good place, its a shame the govt is so determined to close it down
There is also English content in the bottom right hand corner
we have tried this in England but within two weeks to a month usually the owners and authorities have sorted out eviction process so people have to leave.
In other cases where groups have successfully held a building for a while and resisted eviction, often the police turn up with riot police and even armed police…
How long has this “youth house” been going for? Seems like it is well run and does not normally cause trouble (never heard of riots there before and I often read european news)…
Why do the council want to close it down and evict everyone?
Sorry for the bad language..Its not me who have written it :groucho: :groucho:
Undgdomshuset is one of the longest running european squats / punk / anarchist house , it was given to the punks and anarchists of Copenhagen in the early 80s by the mayor at the time , and has been ever since an active as fuck place. It’s where the K-Town Festival (best diy punk fest in europe as far as im concerned ) is taking place , among shitload of other things. Its the place where the local bands practice and record , where there is meetings for demonstrations , workshops and various radical actions. It’s one of the most awesome places I’ve seen in my whole life. And K-Town Fest is one of the only places where I’ve seen a massive amount of punks attacking cops (not the opposite).
Since a few years the city has been trying to take it back from the punks and now it seems it’s getting closer to the end… Here are some articles that sum up the situation , more infos can be found on this site :

Please forward the info to whoever might ne interested… This could be (and is) happening anywhere.
National court has spoken … but nobody listened 29 Aug 2006
Yesterday on Monday the 28th the national court decided to second the decision of Copenhagen City Court from 2003. This means that we have lost the right to use the house.
After the verdict we had a huge meeting with several hundred people where we discussed what to do.
We have of course decided not to follow the decision of the court. We have not spent the last 24 years developing a unique culture centre used by thousands of kids and youngsters from the whole city, – and the rest of the world just to throw it all away on the whim of a corrupt legal system.
Throughout this whole process we have tried to get the politicians to take responsibility for their mistakes and join the efforts to find a solution. They have not showed any interest in this.
Therefore we must underline that if a political solution is made impossible then confrontations will be inevitable.
What will happen now is uncertain but we will prepare ourselves for an eviction attempt from the police in the coming weeks and months. At the same time we are encouraging everybody everywhere to do actions in support of Ungdomshuset – and send their pictures and statements to info@ungeren.dk. By so doing, we will show Faderhuset and the politicians, that the only authority over Jagtvej 69 is Ungdomshuset’s assembly.
Show up in September!!!
We would also like to invite everybody for the weekend 22nd thtough 24th of September. There will be a lot of things going on. A large demonstration on the 23rd and a Reclaim the Streets action on the 24th amongst parties, exhibitions, debates and more. It is going be a blast – don’t miss it.
Status Tuesday – the politicians wish to negotiate 30 Aug 2006
The National Court spoke Monday. Since a lot has been happening. This is an attempt to summarize some of what has happened until late Tuesday.
Monday
We had call for an extraordinary assembly in the house after the court released its decision. Copenhagen was crawling with cops since noon. But the cops had forgotten that this fight is bigger than Nørrebro. Different groups in other cities carried out solidarity-actions and in Norway the Danish embassy in Oslo was occupied by friends of Ungdomshuset
Most of the evening was spend debating our next moves. The big concert hall was full of people eager to act.
We decided right away that in the case of an eviction attempt we would not set any limitations to how people should express their rage. We also decided to get as many actions as possible going to show how many we are who are ready to defend the house.
Tuesday
Under the cover of night the kids of Copenhagen had expressed their feelings about the courts decision. In spite of a massive police presence in the area most banks on Nørrebro had been attacked and new graffiti sprung up everywhere. The cops were extremely pissed that they did not catch anyone.
Before noon an old military island fort was occupied and the police had to use boats to stop the action and get the Ungdomshus-pirates. In the afternoon people started dropping by with materials for barricading and from the website support messages kept running in
Before it was dark the politicians decided to meet for negotiations Thursday. We welcome this initiative. In the meantime the barricading of the house continued.
At around 9 pm a party started on the bridge to the inner city. It was of course harassed by the police. People had to fight their way through heavy rain and aggressive police to escape mass arrests.
Late Tuesday Nørrebro was still crawling with anxious cops…
Status Thursday around noon 31 Aug 2006
Wednesday was mostly quiet during most of the day. People focused their energy on improving the barricades. In the inner city a smaller group was partying for Ungdomshuset when the marching band of the Copenhagen police showed up. People lined up behind the band and marched along with them chanting Ungdomshuset songs. After a few hundred meters the party was unfortunately interrupted by the real cops who couldn’t see the humor in the situation….
In the evening people relaxed in and around the house. We had concerts and soup kitchen as usual People got a chance to talk to all the new faces and get to know each other better. A lot of people has come to help in the fight and it was great for everybody to have some quality time.
During the night a lot of young people from the neighborhood carried through actions presumably showing their attitude towards the courts decision. Riot police had to respond to 11 times to smashed police cars, burning dumpsters and other things. Bank and chain stores were also attacked during the night.
Today Thursday the streets are quiet again. People seem to be awaiting what actions the politicians will take after today’s meeting…
thanks for the info…
So looking at this I see that some Christian group “Faderhuset” has bought the house directly from the council without even negotiating with the youths already there? How did this happen? have religious fundamentalists taken over in Denmark?
I don’t like the violence but I am hardly surprised there are riots; in fact I am shocked any of this is happening in a modern European country in 2006.
Its not even in England like squats being evicted over money or legal principles; it seems like a “crusade” where Christians are trying to use “market forces” as well take over the territory?! :yakk:
I need a dictionary soon :hopeless: :hopeless:
Ill see what i can find:wink:
Ungdomshuset (Youth house) in Copenhagen, Denmark, is an autonomous space run according to anti-authoritarian and anti-capitalist principles. Ungdomshuset is used for various activities such as DIY concerts and festivals (including the K-town festival), soup kitchens, radical meetings, bookstore/info shop, screen-printing, rehearsing rooms and studio, city garden, and much more; all arranged and run by the people who use the house.
Ungdomshuset was given to the autonomous/squatter movement in 1982,() after a long struggle with government and police, for a self-organized youth center. In 1999 the government put the house on the market. The official reason was: 223The house is only used by 25 subcultural youths224. This is not the case! The truth is that it is used by several hundreds of different people and has since birth, been a thorn in the side of the government!
The house was bought by a fundamentalist Christian group called Faderhuset (The Father house), whose goal is to start a church and save us all from Satan. Of course we will not accept this! Since 2001 Faderhuset has dragged us through the courtroom circus. The verdict is set for September 18th, but no matter what they decide we are here to stay!
For 24 years the house has been an active part in the fight against normalization and apathy and a place for people to be themselves outside the oppressive norms of society.

We all who love free living/free spaces where everyone has equal rights to exist and do what they want without goverment representation, are under attack and heavy repression…this is just a new chapter…. look to christiania, banning of free parties etc….you name it goverment have probably probited it…..this is getting more and more serrious everyday these days….time has come to unite all forces and fight it by the means you find nesesery…none violent or not….I used to stand in the front when all hells broke loose….that time is over now…I found my way in logistics……driving people around to demonstrations, alternative culture activties….if the people that I drive find it just to defend them selves by any means….I BACK THEM 100%…..but I also drive non-violent people….they also have my 100% backup…..Everything has its time!….goverment-violence is used to divide us…let them not do that….the people from yesterday was under attack by policvans whilst sitting down on the ground, trying to drive them over not stopping for anything or anyone……I can well understand they found it useful to defend themselves……The big Q is: Is the whole alternative movement aware of what to to when they come for you?…..maybe this thing here is a load of bollocks….but in my opinnion it is time to make a stand and And shout out enough is enough! And pardon my bad written english…..
what worries me more is that today less youths (particularly in England) are becoming interested in the “alternative movement”, even if they go to raves.
Many will do their drugs and parties perhaps from age 14-25; then afterwards they become “normal people” and are happy to accept the “rat race”.
But perhaps this is an English thing as here we have never had anything like the Ungdomshuset in our country. To keep it for 24 years must mean some of the “youths”, particularly those who help run it, are like us, in our 30s and 40s 🙂 – and they have passed their skills/ideas down to younger people.
But today I rarely hear of younger people wanting to set up a squat or info centre… when you talk about this many call you a “hippy” and laugh at you :you_crazy but when young people do set up a squat it becomes a crackhouse or shooting gallery 🙁

10 days to “undecided?” is that like what we call “indefinite sentence” in the UK? that is not normal (from a British point of view) to be sentenced so quickly; did they not go to Court?
earlier this year there were similar troubles at a rave; but even the people actually caught throwing stuff at cops often go to Court 3 or 4 times before they are actually sentenced.
on the other point though, is the problem with squats and activism also the same in Denmark? in England what I see is many people are happy to have about 5 or 6 years of drugs and parties; then they become “normal” again, many even become “right-wing” and support the clampdowns!
The police have 10 days to come up with evidence*If a judge don’t think the evidence is strong enougt the police have to let the person go..(but they can arrest him again later)
There are ofcource exceptions.Depends of what crime they have made.
£9m House Rent Free
Updated: 10:52, Friday September 29, 2006
A group of squatters has been allowed to remain in a £9m north London house rent free.
Up to 20 people illegally took over the five-storey Victorian house in Hampstead three months ago, according to The Daily Mail.
The group calls itself The Collective and its members hail from Britain, France, the US and Germany.
Local housing association, Circle 33, bought the house for £8,770,000 in June last year and is looking at a long-term redevelopment.
But it has decided to let the squatters stay as long as they ensure the security and upkeep of the property.
A local estate agent estimated the property could command between £4,500 and £8,000 a week on the open rental market.
The new inhabitants, many sporting dreadlocks and tie-dyed clothing, have been welcomed by neighbours.
One told the newspaper: “They dropped leaflets through introducing themselves and giving their telephone numbers if there were any problems.
“They all seem to be friendly, they wave hello when they come and go. They haven’t held any noisy parties and we really haven’t heard a peep out of them.
“It’s a bit bizarre them being allowed to live here rent free.”
One of the squatters said: “We are a collective and we will have to make a decision as a community before we make any statement.”
“It’s a bit bizarre them being allowed to live here rent free.”
its not bizarre at all – it is what is called a short term license and has occasionally happened in squatted buildings.
If you have an empty building and don’t want it to be broken into and vandalised or even burned to the ground, it needs to be protected.
This can either be done by physical security (barriers/fences) or by getting security guards. But this costs money. A building has to be maintained to stop it deteriorating due to the actions of the environment (wind/rain) etc. This also costs money.
A house 105 years old probably needs a lot of repair work on it… it is only worth millions because it is London.
I have seen squats in houses like this – and although the building often looks nice from the outside it is often falling apart inside.
The inhabitants will most likely have to sign a legal document providing their names and guarantee a certain amount of repair work – they probably need to do it just to live comfortably.
It is not trivial either; often you have to re-do plumbing, electrics, I have helped friends do this and often I am crawling about in roof spaces and fixing pipes, or we end up creeping around in the cellar with rats and mice to find the leaks etc…
If you got 20 people as security guards and builders it would cost as much to employ them in London as the potential rental income. They are not living rent free; they are being used as a resource to protect the building, which is probably in a state where it couldn’t be rented out anyway because it has not been modernised.
If they create anti-social behaviour they could still be evicted; if the housing association decides they have not done enough work they could still be evicted. I’m sure some of the neighbours will be watching them like hawks and calling the cops for the slightest problems they see there, or taking photos etc of any damage to show to the papers.
It is not a “squatters paradise” but could be very hard work for them; the decent people there will also have to guard themselves and the building from the following..
They could end up defending “Fortress Londonistan”.
