The OPs problem was more that he lives in a large, affluent middle class rural area of the USA with a lot of religious people (although cannabis might be decriminalised there!) – these areas don’t need to tolerate EDM events as farming and maritime operations (where they are coastal) bring in more income for less hassle. The decriminalisation parafoxically makes things worse as American promoters try to distance the scene from drugs.
The same situation affects Europeans but to a smaller scale as our continent is geographicallly smaller and we can travel around more easily at present; but even my bit of England rarely has any kind of music event and I can’t afford or find the spare time to go to NL / FR / DK / DE for a weekend (plus the journey back will not be present, UK border force (douane) will be convinced I have gone abroad for the “wrong reasons”)
