Today there was a massive development in this area. 2 weeks ago we sent a message to Luton town hall stating that we intend to hold these peaceful demonstations beginning outside the town hall and ending up outside Luton Police Station, of course keeping within the current protest laws and bylaws. 10 MINS LATER we get a phone call from Chief Superintedant Ian Middleton, enquiring about our intentions to hold the demos and asking for a meeting to discuss the issues!!! We agreed. That meeting was held today at HAZ Manor (see pics below).
Of course we are always wary of talks with police as in the past we have practically been betrayed and talks have collapsed. But these are different times, and a different poilce force from the early 90’s!!! and from the meeting we just had we are all pretty sure that we can achieve a positive outcome. The issue of licensing free parties was the main issue on the table, WE ARE NOW IN THE PROCESS OF LOOKING FOR VENUES FOR RAVES AND A FESTIVAL IN THE LUTON AND BEDS AREA, AND WE HAVE THE FULL SUPPORT AND CO-OPERATION OF THE POLICE AS LONG AS WE CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING FACTORS:
1. We dont play out in residential areas
2. We ensure that the venue can handle the volume of people without negatively affecting nearby residential areas
3. The venue is safe, with ample security, stewarding, and first aid facilities, this can all be provided by the sound system cru but should be covered properly!!
4. For outdoor venues, we must have the landowners permission.
5. For indoor venues, a lease agreement or written permission from the owner of the building (The police and council will help find these venues!!). We have alot of ideas on this, watch this space!.
6. Police will obviously not be seen to support drug dealing or drug use, our response to this was that we are vigilant but we cannot do any more than the average club or commercial rave to counter drugs, this is issue in society as a whole, not just Exodus!!!
So we had the meeting and agreed to meet again in a fortnight when some more progress has been made. But this is definatly the first step to a middle ground where we can hold our events without the risk of confrontation with the police and without the extertionate overheads or shit vibes of the commercial scene!!
THIS IS GOING TO BE THE BLUE PRINT FOR EVERY OTHER SOUND, IF IT WORKS HERE THEN WHY NOT EVERYWHERE?? Watch this space for more info, we will be holding a meeting for all the sound systems that wanna be involved very soon as originally intended.
Another step forward…..

thought this was something good 2 see wit police n raves – progress not riots :bounce_fl
this looks to be extreemley intresting an lets hope very productive.raaa
Looks good – hope it all goes well – I’m always a wee bit cynical about the OB but fair play this is very encouraging :bounce_g:
the way forward, and a good news story for a change
took the words out of my mouth, nice one.
whilst its not really a concession on the part of the Police its at least an attempt at dialogue and finding a middle ground.
If it works in this area, its a positive signal to the neighbouring constabularies and local populations – Herts/Beds is a good test area as its a sort of “no mans land” between SE England and East Anglia…
On a lighter note, does anyone else though think that the Police Superintendent actually looks younger than the two Exodus crew on either side of him?
Bang on GL:laugh_at: :laugh_at: :laugh_at: :laugh_at: :bounce_g:

some of my mates from round this way were talking about it and I was a bit skeptical at first, but it definitely seems to be happening and its hard to fake a picture like that, and they do have the advantage in Beds/Herts that there hasn’t been as many actual riots
Exodus (or what remains of them these days) have made tactical mistakes in the past but I hope they can at least get something positive from this across the East (and its up to the ravers as well to help it along, hopefully these events go off without any beef, ruckus or stupidity)
well than that’s cool
it reinforces what i’ve been saying about going for TENs
i know that historically events like BOB have created ‘battle lines’ but people can’t hold grudges forever…
maybe we can still party happily into the future
maybe we can still party happily into the future
IME the grudges with the more recent rave crew have nothing do to with the 80s political era, its simply like a more aggressive street culture
a small minority of lads (in particular) often want to fight the cops not so much to “protect the crew” (even if they claim its the case) but because the cops have previously dared to bust them for actual crimes such as shoplifting / burglary, car theft or even robbing people.
at some raves you get lads who become edgy when there aren’t any cops and still start trying to cause other problems (at least the small amount of “organisation/discipline” of TENS events might discourage these types)
i agree
it seems that the free party spirit is lost on some people. internal security hasn’t been imposed by enough crews (e.g.by switching off the tunes if aggression flares up) and it’s reached a point where it’s become too hard to promote free parties in their truest sense from any moral high ground, due to the actions of a few, so we need to use the opportunities given to us by TENs to show that the majority of crews can hold safe events without the need for heavy interference from the mainstream
