  • Does anybody else here, really wish that people would stop using ‘ironic’ in the wrong context?

I went to a hip hop gig last night. There was a bass player, guitarist and drummer along with several rappers playing live hip hop.
Lovely jubbly, what’s not to like?

Suddenly, this geezer says to the crowd: “this next tracks about a railway.” (then he indicates to the ceiling)
“Ironically, we are under a railway!”
Everyone clapped, as I felt a rise of anger in my chest that made my face burn red.

Its not ironic, its coincidental! Fuck sake man, get it right!

I’ve also noticed be say ‘literally’ when they mean the actual opposite ‘figuratively’
For example: “she literally put me in the dog house” “I’m literally physically sick at that comment”

    C’mon people!

    PREACH SISTER PREACH!

Ok, my spelling and grammar is pretty fucking bad, but even I try, and I don’t ‘try’ to do anything. Ever. Exept get stoned, I’m really pro-active with that. Amd drinking, I’m REALLY good at that.

Too drinik an high to really tthink too much on this but i know what you mean.

    Jesusu H Christ

people at a hip hop gig probably aren’t the brightest bulbs in general, but we learn all these words and never learn how to use them right

On a forum like this with so many nationalities it’s really hard always writing the right words and spelling them correct. On top of that use the right grammar and punctuations.
It’s really not easy when English isn’t your first language.

Instead of worrying your pretty little self over grammar why not GET THE FUCKING IRONING DONE?

Of course, but I’m not talking about on this forum.
This happens a lot with English born and bred people.

Lol. I believe in America the incorrect use of the word literally, when people mean figuratively, has become such a problem that they have altered it’s meaning in the dictionary. So rather than better educating the masses they’ve just dumbed down the language. The result of this is that literally now means figuratively, and figuratively also means figuratively; so they literally have no word meaning literally.

It could literally be a load of bullshit, but I choose to believe silly things like that.

Well thanks fuck you aren’t Americunts or you’d be so depressed about the criminal assault they used to bastardize our language, I might give a shit like you loy :laugh_at:

I’m gonna get shit for this, but I don’t agree with you.
Language is constantly changing, words get a new meaning, are invented or disappear altogether, how do you think modern english came to be?
Take the word awful, which now describes something that is really bad, the original meaning was something that was “full of awe”, which could have either positive or negative connotations.
All this talk about “dumbing down language” is bullshit if you ask me.

Yes and euphoric used to imply being low, euphoria wwas properly hypo or hyper eiphoria but that got simplified.

You can disagree with anything at all I say, thta’s totally OK and many do (every single 1 wrong tho )

American english is pushing it too far. They have tried to have the letter U sentenced to death and the many mnay more shocking assaults they have done and yet 1 of the only fucking books they’ll have took on the voyage would be a fucking english dictionary.

Saying that they prob had a bible yet still went fucking psycho on that and hey presto, mormans.

As for the dumbing down of a language, how can that be bullshit. If I give you a fully developed language and you remove letters from every word you can and show me the results it would look to me like dumbing down.

These are only my opinions tho 🙂

You seem to be having a rather angry at Americans day today Tryp lol

Mmmmmmmmmmmm that’s cos it’s a day between monday and sunday. Their are some lovely Americans but their government is fucking moronic and seem happy to take the piss out of the world cos they think then run this motha.

And on top of that the most truthful people in the country are shown to be repeated liars so do you have any redeeming features?

Quick search of my threads on murka gave this:

But I’ll tell you what really pisses me off, branded chems sold by fools.
