I am wondering if this mega party will rival Castlemorton, now that was some serious shin dig, even though I got ripped off more times than a kit kat wrapper at a fat kids birthday party
I doubt it. Castlemorton (I was there as well!) was a bit of a phyrric victory IMO – Middle England was so angered by essentially losing control over part of the country that the CJA was passed two years afterwards (this was the start of laws being “fast tracked” from public lobbying to Parliament and Whitehall to the statute books within two years, previously it could take three or four years!)
It also spurred both public and private bodies to invest in “target-hardening” measures such as CCTV and ever increasing guarding of potential venues.
Also whilst I didn’t get ripped off and it was awe-inspiring I found it also quite intimidating and impersonal and with the amount of people there were dodgy things going on like fights and muggings.
TBH far prefer smaller (not necessarily tiny!) events that are friendlier and create less disruption to locals- people tend to get away with them more..
what is wrong with people getting back to nature being outside in summer having a drink a dance a chill a smoke hurting no one sat around a fire…where s the hurt…
they will NEVER get ride of the rave scene they are pissing in the wind…
they know it …we know it…since caveman times we ve been getting together an making music around a fire…its nothing new…its in our blood…
the people who spoil it for us freedom to party people is the chavs the piss headz the loony toones who think partying is to make loads of noise, fighting, getting too messy wiv the drugs…those that have a fire an a party outside but leave a mess for all to see….
the villiagers walk by the next day an see this and are disgusted…they report it…it fuels the fire …looks bad on the descent party people….
no raves an free parties will never stop…we re not hurting no one…..
peace x raaa
PERSONALLY I DONT SEE WHAT THE POLICE HAVE AGAINST RAVES, APART FROM THE DRUGS AND TRESSPASSING THERES NOTHING WRONG WITH THEM. THERES HARDLY EVER ANY FIGHTING/ PEOPLE BEING SEVERLY HURT AND WHEN THERE IS ITS NOT EVEN RAVERS ITS A BUNCH OF PISSED CHARVS THAT HAVE RANDOMLY STUMBLED ACROSS A RAVE AND THINK IT WILL BE FUN 2 TURN SOME ONE OVER.
FUCK THE CHARVS AND THE POLICE.
EXCUSE MY IMPOLITENESS
ACAB!
But it’s not all peace and love. Website moderator Dan said some of the larger crews – the operators of the sound systems – are being forced out of urban areas by tougher policing and have moved into rural areas like the south-west. “It can be an ego thing – wanting to put on the biggest party, wanting to put two fingers up to authority. Bigger isn’t always best.”
i never fucking said that :head_bang
aha! thought that was you. how did they get quotes off you?
and try and rise above it. i recon at least 90% of reporting is misquoted. or just plain fabricated to suit the author…
glad they quoted you and not some one else tho. nice one.
is Aaron Fuckhead organising it again?
etc etc
Mithinks it is in Devon- but mi mate down the road said it was not there it is in Yorkshire- but mi Nan says that can’t be right cos the lady in the knitting shop smuggled her directions in a ball of wool- and it is in Cheshire . . but then the dog came back with a bone from the bloke who goes to parties all the time and engraved lightly on the bone was ‘scotland’. . so we think that it is probably in Brighton on the beach wiv that ‘DJ man- only they have got the tides worked out now – so rescue services will be able to relax!
Florence fecked noes . . she got it from Dougal on her playground trip last week.
YO! Glo sos about the argu stir- there was reason shall fill you in with the detail laters. . !!

Well u missed it folks, the Guardian MegaRave Warmup Weekender! was rockin’ big time, with guest djs from the other rag rigs rocking between the sheets, including for the first time outside of london, MC Wapping Whopper.
The Guardian Unlimited rep was on hand with some quality quotage: “This weekend we’ve proven the format works on a small scale. We’ll be out and about with the system over the next few weeks, so watch out for the special promotion parties and maybe catch us at some other larger events where we’ll be spreading the word. As for the big one, well, we’re just proud to be out front leading the rest of the press pack party hacks”

HUH! pleeze noooooooo
the media seems to enjoy saying there was a ”re-birth” of the rave scene and it ‘came back’, but did it ever actually go anywhere?
i really dont think it did
i really dont think it did
the media were actually about 2-3 years behind…
the rebirth of the rave scene actually happened from around 2001-2004 (particularly when the cops were distracted by paranoia over “terrorism” and the effects of binge-drinking in towns), there was shit loads of massive multiriggers around then, 10 rig parties that went on for 2-3 days, both indoor and outdoors
by 2004/5 there had been a massive backlash from locals because of this (mostly due to rubbish, vandalism and anti-social behaviour outside the raves) and cops were encouraged to work with Government lawyers to prosecute organisers on licensing laws as well as the CJA.
By that time there had already been a few high profile busts and the 2005/6 parties (although still quite large) were actually smaller than the ones that had happened before. There were actually less rigs and less people as some had had kit confiscated, others had just burned out through too much drugs from 2001-2005.
I suspect that the cops only talked to the Press in 2006 because they felt that they had enough resources to quell any increases in attempted raves in 2006 – although a couple of big ones happened., in hindsight these appear to be Phyrric victories.
Even the Davidstow one (although it didn’t get busted as heavily as the Eastern “riot-rave”) resulted in confiscations and a heavy lockdown on SW and SE England for the rest of the season.
you learn summat new everyday – now i know what Phyrric means :laugh_at:
are raves gonna be smaller this year then dya reckon, or will there still be “mega-raves” every now and then?
to quote you: your guess is as good as mine 😉
