they have got to be the worst police force out there, one of them is on a mission to stop parties in the area, surely there are better things to spend our taxes on:evil:
Sure there is! Like catching speeding motorists while sitting in a nice warm car!!! Anything else then actually using their brains like detecting crimes!! :head_bang
So they are still clamping down hard in the area then?
I find that they are quite easy going round here! not really had any issues with them……
ive never had a problem with tvp, they can be very reasonable if they turn up
TVP they are no different from any other police force in SE England – sometimes they are lenient, sometime they can be really harsh.
they act on the level of disruption caused by the rave; and you can’t expect cops to just let things go if locals or building owners are complaining the area is being trashed.
Sadly there has been too much vandalism and rubbish at certain raves, people only started addressing these issues when rigs started getting confiscated more often.
There is a fair amount of crime at a rave – there is often criminal damage to the surroundings (you get numpties who think its fun to break into adjacent places) and it is of course an unregulated drugs market (legal clubs have some sort of “veneer of respectability” with bouncers at least attempting to stop overt drugs use).
I think the cops are smarter than many realise.
What they have been doing over the years is working out “what sort of crowd” attends raves; which they can do very easily by taking down numberplates (each car has to be owned by an individual) and doing “PNC checks” on individuals (all of us must have had one at least once whilst leaving a rave)
By and large if you are a “normal raver” with a job or at college, and who doesn’t blatantly wave drugs in front of coppers’ noses or is careless about stashing stuff, you will be left alone.
Even if you are a DJ or own a bit of a rig, its not quite contstant pressure otherwise half the people I know would be in jail (although they do keep an eye on you if they think you are doing illegal raves)
but – there are a number of people who attend raves in stolen cars, who are addicted to drugs, who thieve their way through life because they don’t have jobs, who fight in the streets, who burgle places and are well known to the Police.
When these sorts are seen at raves, the cops tend to judge the crowd by its “lowest common denominator” (and often its the “wannabe gangsta” types who are first to sling bottles at the Police when they see them…)
Yes but to be fair the copper he is talkin about has got a real issue with our scene. Like its his personal mission or somethin. On the other hand maybe he’s just good at his job! Did i just say that!? I guess some people have took the piss too much in this area and anyone remotely connected to them is on that pc’s list. He knows alot about everyone involved and i think he will just wait until those people play into his hands. But Do you ever get the impression that the police think our scene is alot more organised and has a bigger, tighter local and national network than it really has? I think they take the “underground” aspect of it too seriously.
yep I’ve heard about this situation and I think what you are saying is right – he’s probably a bit over-zealous but thames valley area did get proper caned from 2001-2004 especially the ridgeway…
to most feds, a big rave (like the sort of 10-riggers we had about 3 years ago) is maybe be a few thousand people gathering en masse to take over by force (even if just force of numbers) property costing hundreds of thousands of pounds for days on end – that does take a fair bit of organisation.
i know what you mean though as the cops always seemed to think my mates were serving up loads of drugs and/or making money from the parties and couldn’t work it out when they did their detective work (and believe you me some of the crew got watched like hawks) and then found they were usually just normal lads and girls from the suburbs, with normal day jobs who did it for a bit of fun…
But where do all the drugs come from? some serious gangsters are involved higher up in the chain supplying the demand for party drugs and the cops know this.. and unlicensed raves are a free market for selling what you want without hassle – the cops know this too..
Also, authorities in the foreign nations where a lot of ket comes from are pointing out that the UK is responsible for a lot of the illegal demand worldwide – and how can Britain tell the world what to do until they’ve got their own house(nose?) in order?
Further, I think a lot of people hot themselves and the scene up as well – I see loads of people on forums go on about how they are on dole/not working and then in subsequent posts they brag about “yeah I bought a grands worth of tunes / computer / rig” this week – so any feds reading stuff like that think that people may have “alternative sources of income” – plus people sometimes do crimes and scams to fund rigs and it only takes one or two people doing this for cops to start investigating everyone in a circle of friends…
We go searched by the police last week for looking suspicious etc in a known area for drugs, n wen they checked our cars apparantly it flaggged up that these cars and people were known for attending illegal raves, apparantly they could use as part of the grounds 2 do a drugs search n this flag is against the car for 3 months after being made
bastards!
Didnt it just! but what a shame it was so over used. I remember one barn being used four weeks in a row by different rigs n loads of other venues twice in a row. Stupidness the ridgeway and surrounding areas have almost been raped of all there venues. Parties in one concentrated just make the locals more clued up on what to look out for n more determined to stop it. I think crews are scared of not pulling in punters if they stray too far from home. Maybe one day the Ridgeway Moots will return
Cops have wanted to do that for years but only recently perfected the technology to have the details at hand in every traffic police car. (ANPR – automatic number plate recognition).
A mate of mine used his van to transport some kit to a rave and a few months later he got stopped midweek by traffic cops – they said the system had said his van was a “known rave unit” (i.e vehicle used to help put on raves) and searched it but just found loads and loads of catalogues…
He told them he had “calmed down and got a job delivering catalogues” (which was the exact truth!) and they let him go…
but they did seem to check up on every motor vehicle he ever owned since then (vans or cars) and he eventually got busted for drug driving and had his license revoked, it defo seemed that because he was known for being a raver the cops had paid extra attention to his driving….
if you have a van at a rave i think they presume you have something to do with it. Ive had the same problem as your mate for many years now. I think i parked next to the stack too many times!
