  • been wondering about this..

there are a lot of good parties in Thetford forest, but as usual by the end of it there are many bottles/cans/balloons left behind..I do see people with bags tidying up, but this is often late on Sunday evening and it must be getting dark..

And what about the tracks where all the cars are parked? I hope some people take away their own trash (maybe most do)…

Does someone from the crew go back there on Monday and help clear up, or is it all left to Forestry Commissions rangers to deal with? I haven’t seen loads of complaining articles in the local papers though, so maybe there is a “clean up crew” associated with the raves (this used to happen in SE England)

Incidentally I worked at Defra for many years (they work very closely with Forestry Commission) and would look out for any notes/news articles about environmental problems caused by raves, yet it seems that they weren’t even seen as a major environmental problem until Davidstow in 2006 (by which time I had left that job).

Defra were sort of a sister organisation but a “rival” to Forestry commission as well (Blair made us “compete” for various bits of work), particularly with regard to looking after SSSIs.

At one rave in SE England a few years back I went for a spangled wander in the morning, and saw a friend of mine who always clears up litter in the morning – she was with a good looking blonde girl also clearing litter – I was getting ready to chat up what I thought was a a “pretty hippy girl” (suprising for me, being quite shy) when I suddenly realised she was wearing a Forestry uniform fleece and badge :scared:

So I quickly disappeared, although later I cursed myself for being paranoid as “nothing would have happened, there’s no way she would have known who I was or work could have found out..”

Then on Monday at work my Head of Division (your ultimate boss in the Civil Service) who was sort of “hippy accountant”(!) type arrived and said to everyone “hope you had a good weekend, I’ve just been on a working weekend preserving woodlands with the Forestry Commission” (it turned out he had been in virtually the same area I had been) – looks like I had a lucky escape…

a couple of times we have had to go back to venues and do more cleaning up
once at the home tunnel when we had run out of room in the vans and had to go back on the monday evening to pick up the rest of the bags

and the other at the little venue we used after chequers
we went back midweek to check we’d done a good job because we packed up at dusk

it does make a difference as I’ve seen council bods send cops away saying “no crime committed” (and the council have the power to press charges) when they have seen a good clean up in progress.. :groucho:

Yes. As far as I know (Although I rarely make it to the end of a party nowadays!).

It is part of the ‘community ethos’ – a result of everyone wanting to do parties like Brains Kan. At the end everyone chips in and clears up- makes short work if everyone does it. Normally everything is recycled as well.

Our crew otoh used to be useless, normally myself and one or two others- we always made sure it was done though.

At other parties I’ve been to, e.g. down in Brighton, its often much harder to get people up for it at the end of a party. I’ve had many stressfull encounters with ‘hippies’ who would do it, but, well, ‘can’t really be bothered’.

    That pisses me right off.:you_crazy

Fair play, I had noticed some bags attached to a frame in front of the decks for rubbish. I remember reading somewhere on SJ (a few years ago) that they often got enough from weighing in cans/bottles to pay for fuel costs! raaa

Also I couldn’t see Forestry just ignoring any rubbish left behind, so it does seem the crews are doing a good cleanup job.

Me and my friends jsut about lasted to the end of last weekends party…

I would have helped but I foolishly got myself into such a state that I had to hold on to a tree for what seemed to be ages, not because of some overwhelming hippy sentiments to hug a tree, but for the simple pragmatic reason that had I not done so I would have fallen down a large embankment as I could no longer stand.

I took this as a lesson that there was a good reason why I stopped doing K…. :yakk:

Amen brother! I was loving that party until a bit o the old regretamine! Wasted 2hrs of my life!

Just came out of it when the old skool came on. THEN I got dragged home.

    Bastards.

    Hi,
I went to party in a wood near me (nr colchester) last summer, which However, I blame that on the fact ob turned up and moved everyone on, so no-one had time to clear shit up!

What I meant to say was, I went to a party in a wood near me last summer. I had to go back next day to pick up car, and the place was a mess, which I blame on OB…

    Make more sense now…

that was the one in earls colne wasn’t it? apparently it was good but very near residential areas, some girls who actually lived in the area walked down to it as they could hear it from their house!

Any idea what happened to the crew or whether they got the rig back?

Unfortunately this situation happens sometimes – its even been known for the feds to go through the rubbish themselves for forensic (this really only happens at massive multiriggers, although I wouldn’t put anything past Essex Constabulary who seem to think that raves are terrorism.)

Welcome to partyvibe BTW 🙂 and if you are looking for good stuff round these ends my advice is to cross the Stour, leave Essex behind and search in the adjoining counties :groucho:

Hi, thanks for the welcome. Great site
Yes, thats right! It was good, nearest house half a mile.
We all walked home ourselves – hence having to go pick car up next day..

I read in local paper the following week that the rig was confiscated. But then I also read that a local resident found “some small white pills with doves on them” all over the clearing. As if!

Sound advice, my friend, about leaving essex. Very keen on thetford thing. Been there during the day a few times, and always thought it would be great to go raving there..

I am old enough to remember when doves first came out, and if pills of that quality had made a resurgence I very much doubt they would end up being carelessly scattered around even if the feds were in the process of shutting down the rave in full riot gear; they would have been smuggled out somehow and saved for another day :groucho:

    Morning,
Yes, I too am old enough to remeber that- and thats my point. No way would they be left about, so the paper are lying, and so I dont know whether the rig was confisacted or not.

So wheres good in Suffolk this weekend?
