After Kingsbury residents were plagued by two illegal all-night raves, Brent Council says it has thwarted a third.

People living near the Welsh Harp endured two sleepless nights when revellers pitched up on land next to the reservoir on July 16 and August 8.

The gang erected makeshift sound-systems pounding out ear-blasting party music into the small hours.

Many tired and angry residents were readying themselves for another ear-bashing on Saturday last week when the council stepped in.

When word went round that another rave was planned for August 14, environmental health and nuisance control officers fitted padlocks to gates, and installed bollards at the Birchen Grove entrance to the site and 12 steel girders at the Cool Oak Lane entrance.

Security guards also patrolled the area over the weekend.

In the face of such determined action, the rave was cancelled.

Councillor Lesley Jones, Brent Council’s lead member for the environment, said: “Quick action saved dozens of residents from the distress that the noise and activity of illegal raves produce.

“As soon as we found out an illegal rave was planned we took positive steps to make sure it was thwarted.”

West London seems to be getting quite harsh nowadays. Earlier in the year (January/Feb time IIRC) there was an attempt to hold a rave in a large industrial unit in Hillingdon.

It got shut down by environmental health along with what must have been about a quarter of Scotland Yard – about 10 serials (riot vans) all full (not like provincial forces where they send out a van with 3 bobbies in it!). Everyone left pretty sharpish- although the party relocated into another building in TVP area and continued! The bust was reported in local papers as an “example of good practice wih the Council and Police working together”

TBH I’m not surprised at all given the current terrorism scares and their recently upgraded comms/logistics that the Met can turn out in large number at such short notice on a weekend; but there was a time when London parties went relatively untouched by cops unless they needed to be there (like someone had been stabbed etc)

I suppose one problem is that a lot of London industrial estates are very near houses, but the units are normally used for high-tech rather than manual work so there isn’t normaly a noise problem.

another possibility is that the Met are becoming worried that the level of violence at London parties will reach a point where firearms are discharged – at present they (thankfully) have only been brandished (and even that is too much IMO), but with what is going on in London on the urban music scene in recent years its hardly surprising they aren’t optimistic!

on a lighter note, this did read like Heddlu Dyfed Powys Police turning over the Eisteddfod for noise! I do get the impression either the Welsh are very slightly more tolerant, or that raves are held in the middle of nowhere (and there are lots of places like this in Wales) so no one particularly cares. When I was at Trefil I got the impression the hill sheep actually seemed to enjoy Storms hard house!

yeah i recken the sheep love the tunage aswell up trefil, but wot do u expect when they could b munchin on peoples lost drugs.
