You’ve missed out whats by far and away the best I’ve seen – South West 9 – about a party that goes on around the time of the ’98 Reclaim The Streets in London – my fave film of all time, let alone just fave drug film.
Out of ones up there – Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas gets it, followed by 24 Hour Party People and Human Traffic.
Incidentally – once saw a great film that had Branden Block, Alex P and Carl Cox in it and was basically the story of one night in a dirty little club in London in the early 90’s told from perspective of various punters within the club but can never remember its name to get hold of it again – anyone know the film I’m on about???
i think iv seen sw9, was there a bloke in it who stuck his hand in acid by mistake and was changed 4 life?
Yeah thats the one – spends entire film (and implication at end is he will be lost to acid forever) tripping – leading to the immortal line from the narrator:
‘So here we all are, just past midnight in an old churchyard, and the bloke behind the 9mm… is tripping off his tits…’
Class film!
Can’t believe nobodys voted for ‘French connection’. Gene Hackman does a very credible job of acting out a ‘heroin rattle’! Just for that alone it deserves 1 vote. I’d already cast my vote for ‘Midnight Express’. Very emotive film based on a true story. The actor that played Billy Hayes passed away from contracting the aids virus.
Please correct me if I’m wrong.:groucho: :groucho:
well, i’d like to say fear and loathing..because hunter s thompson knows what the fuck he talks about. its whacky, and doesnt try to serve you a moral lesson really..in general drug movies make me fiend for drugs. if i got 4 dollars to put to a movie..well fuck that, ill spend it on acid and have the real deal. if i wanna remenice though, its definently fear and loathing. what a whacky movie.
the bit where he start coming up on the sid when checking into the hotel :weee: been there before
mines gotta be cheech and chongs up in smoke just for comical value. the rest of their films arnt really that impressive. scarface, layer cake, trainspotting, and of course fear and loathing all tickle me but there more focused a long the lines of ”fuck your head up” drugs so therefore cant be taken as light heartedly as cheech and chong altho there films do contain a large amount of class As. i love sittin with a nice big bag of bud in front of the tele watchin up in smoke, usually has me in stiches for hours.
Hope you’ve seen it since you’ve posted this.
True story about an American smugglin’ hash outta Turkey. Billy Hayes…….. absolutely top film with a top performance by the English actor that played the Elephant Man (John Hurt I think).
Emotional scene that always brings me to tears when his wife visits him in the hell hole jail. Where she shows him her breast so he can have a jizz.
Whoops I’ve nearly told anyone who hasn’t seen it the whole story:groucho: :groucho: .
Seriously though, this is in my top ten films of any genre.
What about ‘Eraserhead’? Anybody seen this mad David Lynch film?
Naked Lunch top book that the film could never do justice.
Thirdly or is that fourthly, ‘Drug Store Cowboy’, with a cameo by the late William Burroughs at the end of the film. A lot of classics in that list in which I’ve just downloaded and watched Spun, Requiem for a Dream and Fear and Loathing for the first time.
You see I do take note of the excellent threads and posts on this website.(creep creep).
