more nuclear power for UK The energy commission haven't published their results, but what is known is that the total energy required to build, run and transport the waste from nuclear stations is greater than they will produce in their life time (so they cannot claim to be generating energy, overall)
there is no way to dispose of the waste
they will not reslove the short-term difficulty with energy supplies; the first round of nuclear energy would be online in about 30 years time
they cost 10s of billions of punds to build; almost exclusively subsidised by taxes
the same amounts of money would generate greater amounts of energy from renewable sources in less time
so what is this cunt thinking?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/4987196.stm
Nuclear is back on agenda - Blair
Prime Minister Tony Blair is set to give his strongest signal yet that he backs the building of a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK.
The prime minister will tell the CBI later on Tuesday that the issue is "back on the agenda with a vengeance".
He will say Britain faces the prospect of being largely reliant on foreign gas imports for its future energy needs.
In a set-piece speech, he will say it would be a dereliction of duty if he failed to take long-term decisions.
Ahead of the speech Mr Blair's official spokesman predicted there would be "despairing shrieks of outrage" in response to Mr Blair's comments.
BBC political editor Nick Robinson said ministers appeared to be considering changes to the planning process to overcome local resistance to new power stations.
Done deal?
No 10 says Mr Blair will say he has seen a "first cut" of the government-commissioned energy review, which is due by the end of July.
A Department of Trade and Industry spokesman said there was as yet no first draft of the review and the prime minister would be responding to information about its progress passed on to him by Energy Minister Malcolm Wicks.
The prime minister is due to say that if current policy remains unchanged there will be a "dramatic gap" on targets to reduce CO2 emissions by 2025 forcing Britain to become heavily dependent on gas.
"We will move from 80 or 90% self-reliance on gas to 80 or 90% dependency on foreign imports, mostly from the Middle East, Africa and Russia," he will tell business leaders.
Mr Blair will say these "stark" facts "put the replacement of nuclear power stations, a big push on renewables and a step change on energy efficiency, engaging both business and consumers, back on the agenda with a vengeance".
Economic sense?
The prime minister's critics are likely to regard his pro-nuclear hint as another attempt to change the political agenda after talking about animal rights and human rights.
For the Conservatives, shadow industry secretary Alan Duncan accused Mr Blair of "trampling" over his energy review in his desire to reassert his authority in government.
Stephen Tindale, spokesman for environmental group Greenpeace, said: "The prime minister obviously made up his mind about nuclear power some time ago, and certainly well before the government launched its energy review.
"The review is a smokescreen for a decision that has already been taken."
CND chairwoman Kate Hudson argued: "Nuclear power does not make economic or environmental sense. The amount of money invested in producing nuclear power could produce far more sustainable energy, much more rapidly."
Friends of the Earth's Tony Juniper meanwhile said: "It's probably no coincidence that a number of nuclear sceptics were removed from key Cabinet posts earlier this month."
in bed with big business? trying to draw attention away from all his fuck-ups?

Oblivion Recordings hit No.1 in the charts
the week Oblivion Digital is launched!
Oblivion Recordings, hailed by DJ Magazine's Simon Eve as 'the label to watch in 2006' have launched Oblivion Digital to run alongside the main label. It is divided into a series of different colour sub labels each representing a particular style of electronic dance music from down tempo grooves through to techno making it easy for DJs to find what they are looking for.
Oblivion Digital Purple (UK hard trance) has already made an impact with debut track 'Illusion 2006' by MDA & Spherical vs. DJGRH featuring Donna Marie establishing itself as the number one hard dance track at Trackitdown.net knocking Anne Savage & Vinylgroover off the top spot.
With trance, psy trance, hard house and techno catered for and with the upcoming vinyl release of future anthem, 'The Butterfly Effect', by Greg Brookman & Ben Bennett, Oblivion Recordings look set to be taking things to the next level.
DJ Comp Winner & Event update
Innovate @ The Fridge
Saturday 20th May (22:00 - 06:00)
Before we announce the winner, special mention has to go to a few entries who made it to the final selection stage.
DJ Symbiosis, V-I-C, HiFreak1C, Steve Birch, James Ellis and Andrew Martin all submitted fantastic mixes which merited a 2nd listen and were all very close to being selected.
Now, on to the winner.
The winning entry has come from a 22 year old man from Leeds - PHIL METCALFE
Phil's mix was exceptionally well constructed and showed a maturity which belies his club DJ'ing experience of only 2 months. It had fantastic tune selection, great mixing and we collectively feel that he is a worthy winner of the competition and are looking forward to having him down to play for us at Innovate.
As mentioned above, you can listen to Phil's mix from tomorrow on the Innovate web-site - www.innovateuk.net

[IMG]http://www.harderfaster.net/images/features/11378.Dali___Hectic__album_cover_hi_res_[1].JPG[/IMG]Israelien invasion: HOMmega Productions presents Dali
Dali aka Dalit Eizner is only 26 but already has over ten years experience in the music industry behind her, having sung and played the drums in rock bands before getting into dance music production. Her rock roots are indeed betrayed in her dance music, for Dali walks the line between psy trance and rock music, taking the best elements from both worlds.
As the Israeliens hit London this Saturday, there is a very special reason to check out this event: the launch of Dali's debut album Hectic. HarderFaster gets the exclusive scoop on one of psy trance's leading ladies. [Full Story]
Insekt Saturday 13 May reviewed: let the music do the talking!
It was Flash Point's 3rd birthday and time for me to head off to the stunning Fire club for another night of hard house. But it wasn't any old hard house, it was Insekt's version and boy they know how to party. They said 'let the music do the talking' and it did just that: Insekt spoke loud and clear. [Full Story]
Slaying the Cerberus
- Craig Gunn talks parties, people and promoting.
A long time ago the Cerberus protected the entrance to Hades, keeping the living out, its three heads lined with teeth. Not so long after, Cerberus helped to keep the nights of the living dead rocking at parties like Quake and Chaos.
These days the three heads are gone and so are the hard trance beats, having been replaced by progressive house and trance. Since his Gallery DJ competition win Craig Gunn has stepped out of the shadow of his ancient influences and into a brave new world lining up with some of the world's greatest djs. [Full Story]
[IMG]http://www.harderfaster.net/images/features/11374.launch%201108.JPG[/IMG]Dave Joy finally hits London
How is it possible that one of hard trance's most respected djs and label owners has never played in London? After hearing Dave Joy's promo cd and label sampler late last year, not only was I converted from my usual funky house vibes to the dark side, but I knew I wanted to see this man play. After all, he's djed at some great events around the UK and Europe and, earlier this year, Australia, so why not London?!
My subsequent flirtation with the world of promotion to make this happen is another feature in itself, and probably of little interest to the many jaded HF crew who've been there, done that and come out the other side. The purpose of this feature however it to introduce Dave Joy, my favourite hard trance artist, who's playing his London debut at Electrolysis at the Factory this Friday night. [Full Story]
Celebrating the launch of Party Proactive at its new Turnmills home - an interview with D.A.V.E. the Drummer
It seems only yesterday that I came on board with the Proactive team to help with pr for their promotion. It was then a small-to-medium event with a steady label with some solid releases to its name. It's hard to believe than only a year later I am sat at my desk writing about the first of a long string of events at the legendary Turnmills. Party Proactive has, in short, boomed. London town has been blessed with a promotion that is based 100% on fun, flamboyance and inclusion of all party goers from every walk of life. The most obvious reflection of its growing success is its awesome line ups! [Full Story]

ASTRIX (HOMmega / Israel) www.astrix.co.il
First Uk Appearance in the last 6 Months!!!
For a full on club experience come dance to some ground breaking music from Astrix. A unique talent hailing from the capital of trance, Astrix is Israel’s finest psytrance music producer. Avi Shmailov aka Astrix has been producing trance for more than five years. Having played at high profile London gigs at the Brixton Academy, Alexandra Palace, SW4, Stratford Rex, SEone, and The Fridge he charms the crowd with his melodies. His first album 'Eye to Eye' (2002) is rated as one of the best albums to date for its superior music production and innovation.
Astrix’s sound and production has definitely evolved but invariably continues to hold that special something that his tracks have in common with Infected Mushroom. In between helping his label (HOMmega) artists and working on his own tracks, his sound has evolved into a “symphonic psychedelic storm”. His unique style and crystal clear sound incorporates various genres from metal to rock music which he has fine tuned into his latest album 'Artcore'.
Astrix doesn’t want to just produce psytrance but invent a new kind of sound. His tracks start with an interesting intro and immediately jump into 145bpm. The tracks have a melodic build up which spray-paint the dance floor with full on dance beats. On 'Artcore' (2005), Astrix’s latest album, my favorite track is ‘Tweaky’, it mirrors his production approach by finding a fine balance between the chaos of a dance floor and the coolness of at-home listening.
At the Coronet, Astrix is going to exhaust you with his beautiful melodies and you will wish you could dance forever into eternity.
Dali (HOMmega / Israel) "Hectic" - Album Launch www.hommega.com
Dali dances with the crowd. The event at the Coronet is going to showcase her debut album ‘Hectic’ released by HOMmega records. Dalit Eizner (Dali) is one of the few women in the psytrance scene making an entrance as a production artist. Her sets have definitely gotten better since 3 years ago when she started to DJ and curb her interests into producing psytrance. Dali’s sets are inspired by the likes of Astrix and Infected Mushroom. Bubbly and energetic she seems most happy when she’s onstage performing for the crowd. Spinning her new sound and screaming into the microphone Dali is aiming to give her best performance at the Antiworld event.
Xerox & Illumination (HOMmega / Israel) www.hommega.com
Xerox and Illumination are the cream of 2006. Their psychedelic experiment has launched them into a class of their own. With cutting edge music style they are producing music that is dark, metallic and hard. Xerox, Moshe Keinan, and Illumination, Amir Dvir, have successfully served their main course in psytrance with their new album XI. For Xerox & Illumination stretching their musical boundaries is what makes them so special.
XI is one album which can be played in a car or a club and will manage to stir your soul. Believe me they are going to shake the roof and stir the dance floor and bring that dark something that’s been missing for so long.
To have them playing at the Antiworld Gig in May is going to make like minded music lovers go ballistic.
Oforia (Live - Album Launch - BNE)Oforia has a distinguished way of making his tracks sound full on yet danceable. At the Coronet you will witness his new album ‘Inner Twist.’ Having been part of the Goa trance scene in the 90’s, Ofer aka Oforia was then making waves by the name of Indoor.
‘Inner Twist,’ his latest production has some great tracks. Ofer is partly responsible for leading the way in Israel’s psy trance scene. The first track on his album is ‘Return of the Machines’, a song with a rhythmic bass sung by B-Wicked. It’s actually the second track ‘Show no Mercy’ with Timelock which will blow the audience away.
In this album his tracks follow up the last track. So while listening to his album one feels that the track never really ended. Infact the whole album seems to give the feel of one big track. One can only imagine what it’s going to do to the dance floor. To say the least Oforia has a complete psychedelic sound and his new album introduces it very well. Oforia’s tracks are remixed by the likes of GMS and Violet Vision.

Pentagon Releases 9/11 CCTV http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/4987716.stm
so the pentagon have released the footage of 'flight 77' impacting the Pentagon on september 11th 2001
many of the theories about the pentagon not being hit by an aeroplane, but by a missile were, in part, backed up by the fact that the film of it happening had been taken away by the feds and kept from public view
i've watched the fuzzy images on the BBC; all I can see is a pointy thing and then a flash
are there any images of an aeroplane available on the 'net?
