[London] alt.space.alliance – invite – reading group and general meeting Alt.Space.Alliance Invite to - reading group and general meeting
Saturday 27 August 2005
reading group 6-8 p.m.
alt.space.alliance overall meeting 8 p.m.
address: 4 Lloyd Square, London WC1X 9BA (10 minutes from Angel; 15
minutes from King's Cross)
Please, feel free to forward this invitation to friends and allies you
think may be interested in joining us.
alt.space.alliance is a newly formed and forming global alternative
space, artists' collective and nomadic projects alliance. The idea
behind the initiative is to try to generate a set of close alliances
between a number of groups, collectives and spaces working
collaboratively with politically engaged and interventionist
practices, partly as a way to maintain an on-going dialogue around the
different strategies and tactics at our disposal, and partly as a
platform for exchange of material and archives for screening, display,
etc. at least partially outside of institutional and commercial
systems of distribution, and for the development of collaborations and
other forms of interaction (arranging/hosting events, lectures, guests,
travelling between cities and contexts, etc.). After attending
meetings in Chicago, a few folks initiated the formation of a local
group to be linked, hopefully, to emerging alt.space.alliance cells in
various locations throughout the world.
At informal picnics in interesting physical spaces (a city
skyscraper's rooftop, an East London cemetary),aims of the group have
been clarified and expanded. Alt.spaces occur as an emergent dialogue
about spaces, in spaces; this alt.spaces 'cell' is based in, and
therefore focused on London. alt.space.alliance London will feature
reading groups, project presentations, and other member-led
initiatives, with the ends of bridging the familiar theory-practise
divide and ultimately, of 'making stuff' (what some call 'art' though
we recognise the provisionality of the term).
The proposed series of reading groups and gatherings intend to explore
the political economy of our space, both practically and
theoretically. The group conceives of alt.spaces in a number of ways,
with 'alternative' 'space' traversing individual, collective, and
geographic levels: creating spaces of intimacy and face-to-face
connection; exploring spaces for producing and distributing art
outside dominant avenues; critically responding to the politics of the
space of our city as well as contributing to more humane ways of using
and developing the geographic space so as to benefit everyone. As we
look to connect activism, theory, reading and art around the question
of space in London, developments such as the Olympic bid may provide
opportunities for explicit projects along these lines.
The next meeting of the London alt.space.alliance will be on Saturday
27 August. As a more expansive kick-off of the group, this meeting
will be comprised of two parts - first, a reading group from 6-8 p.m.
(pot luck food to be shared during the discussion), and second, the
meeting proper (discussion and consensus-based decision-making about
what the group will do next, beyond this initial reading group).
The reading group will focus on the first 20 pages of Chapter
2, 'Social Space', of The Production of Space by Henri Lefebvre (you
can find the text on: http://www.ccred.org/socialspace.doc).
After the 27th August meeting, the reading group will meet separately
on a bi-weekly basis. The overall group's meetings will be held
monthly, on the third Saturday evening of the month. (Note that folks
who attend the 'regular' meeting of the alliance are not required to
attend the reading group - and vice versa, and others are invited to
start up reading groups or other initiatives that reflect their
interests as well.)

Earthdance 2005
7pm-8am
Arizona Massive
the 7th annual international dance for peace in aid of tibet
We invite you to join us in the annual EARTHDANCE festival, to rejoice in our freedom, our lives and the things we love in them. Thousands of participants at hundreds of events across the country, continent and globe come together at one moment, in one night as one to dance for the prayer for peace among us.
For the 1st time in the history of the Earthdance event, his holiness the Dalai Lama will actually be in Tucson the night of the event to share his wisdom with his followers in the great state of Arizona. What a monumental occasion for us to come together as one as he graces our state and city with his presence.
Last years event, as with all others in the past, topped well over 1000 in attendance locally and over 150,000 worldwide and went strong all night long till the dawn. This year we have a all new venue complete with no less than 9 stages for your dancing pleasure. Come prepared to move to the beat, be stimulated by a barrage of unique experiences that only a true DESERT MASSIVE can bring to you. We've gone back to our roots, to what this event is meant to be. Bring your dancings shoes and postive vibes and be prepared. Till all are one.
This event, is a charity show for peace in aid of Tibet and the Tibetan house of trust. This year we also have added a local charity which helps children across the globe connect with each other in a unifying, positive way.
The mission of the Global Art Project (GAP) is to spread world peace by promoting tolerance and non-violence through art. The Project expresses the idea: We Are All One. People of all ages and from all around the world who choose to participate each create a work of art expressing their vision of global unity. The art is displayed locally in each participant's community. Global Art Project then organizes an international exchange by matching participants group-to-group and individual-to-individual.

13/8 Party Big shout out to everyone at aztek. Good party shame about the gen playing up and the stinking ob. My first aztek party and was not dissappointed, certainly be trying to get to more. Does anyone know the name of the d n b rig as i didn't find out :bounce_fl
I SURVIVED!! Thursday my boyfriend mike and I each took 3 and a half triple stacks of ecstacy. let me tell you, i'll never ever do that much again!! For starters it gave me a very intense headache. It felt like my head was going to blow up. And there for a minute i started to have a bad trip. (which i didn't know was possible) but thank God it didn't last but about 5 minutes. I was really scared i was going to have to go to the hospital. My boyfriend was fine though. He kept an eye on me. He wanted me to go but i was being hard headed because i go to the methadone clinic and I would of had to tell the hospital what I was on and i'd get kicked out of the clinic, and methadone has made such a huge impact in my life believe it or not. If I was dong the things I was this time 2 yrs ago, I definately wouldn't be here to write this. But n-e ways, after the bad part was over I had alot of fun. ADVICE: check out the Rob Zombie-Past, Present, and Future, the one with the cd and the videos. The videos are awsome to watch when you're rollin'. But stay away from #4 it's the reason i started to have a bad trip. Well, thanx for everyone's advice. Happy to say I've learned my lesson. :get_you:

Big Ted will be joining us to bring his unique style of party rocking DJing to the decks. As ever don’t miss out!
This night has become the bench mark for all west end Hip Hop, R'n’B, and Bashment 'block parties'. Boasting a vibe that no other can compete with, it’s no surprise that previous guests have included legends such as the Rock Steady crew.
The Getdown every Friday at Bar Rumba, a four deck scratch and cut mix of Hip Hop, R'n’B, and Bashment, with a touch of Jungle, Garage and Reggae. The real block party, UK style!

Saturday 27 August 2005 – LOCUS, Kingpin, Clean Cut & Language Saturday 27 August 2005
LOCUS, Kingpin, Clean Cut & Language
The Black Swan, Stapleton Road, Bristol
LOCUS, Kingpin, Clean Cut and Language combine this August Bank Holiday weekend to bring you a party of immense proportions, at Bristol's legendary Black Swan.
LOCUS return to their underground roots in Room 1, programming a night of drum 'n' bass so filthy that you might well have to seek counselling the morning after. Flying in from Holland for one night only are current tech DnB prodigies Noisia, making their debut appearance in Bristol with an exclusive, stomach-wrenching 2-hour set. Recently releasing material on labels such as Moving Shadow, Renegade Hardware, Subtitles and Shadow Law Recordings, including remixing Konflict's massive Messiah anthem, make sure you catch the unmissable combo of the grimey Black Swan main room and their even grimier tune selection. Joining them will be Therapy Bristol's Spit, Context wonderboy Thinking, and Rit LOCUS. If that wasn't enough, LOCUS's very own Kulak will be finishing off the night with a 1.5-hour set of the duttiest beats and his trademark impeccable mixing. MC Jakes adds his lyrical talent to the night, rounding off a very messy evening indeed :)
KINGPIN take the reigns in Room 2, presenting Smithmonger and resident DJs Malarky, Gecko, Jon Rokka, Gilbatron & Kraymon. Smithmonger hails from Tasmania, Australia, but is now living in London as an accomplished DJ, producer and engineer. He has released hugely successful tech and electro influenced breakbeat on labels such as TCR, 10 Kilo & Oblong which have been played by everyone from James Lavelle to Hybrid and seen incessant radio play from the likes of Fergie, Zane Lowe and Annie Nightingale. Having played a blinding set at KINGPIN's second birthday party at Trinity the boys thought it would be rude not to invite him round to play again. Expect filthy electro-techno-breaks, a smiling crowd and a lot of sweat.
Clean Cut and Language join forces for Room 3's delights, and ask you to take the weight off your feet and 'chill out'. Chill Out, that is, in the impossibly stupid way you'd expect from these two organisations. Plus, joining the merry pranksters, high on laughing gas and throwing his shovel full into the mix, will be the Python-esque Pete Outlaw. Li'l Fellaz and "How clean is your Microhouse?" complete this absurdly absurd line-up, guaranteeing a fun night for all. No coats allowed (you won't feel the benefit when you go outside), but cardigans more than welcome.
At the stupidly cheap price of a fiver on the door (or even cheaper if you put in a little bit of effort), we dare you to miss this. Go on, just try it! [:@]
