  • Did anyone stay up and watch the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympics?
I went to a BBQ party and while the food and company were great I have to say that I was greatly disappointed by the opening ceremony.

McCartney at the end was like putting a really bad icing on a very bad cake, imoa. He couldnt keep his tune and he looked terrible.

I think the entire thing was a serious embarrasment. Feel very let down by it all.

    What are your thoughts???

I saw some of it. My brother pointed out that danny boyles breif history of the british industrial revolution was missing two key moments at the turn of the 20th centuary, the opening of the first McDonnalds and when you were first able to use coca-cola a a mixer.

he was a proper let down last act at that jubilee shit as well.

I surprisingly watched it, (have never seen one b4 – nope thats a lie I remember seeing Kylie on one for a few mins)
and I really really enjoyed it, loved the selection of music, (absolutely loved Mike Oldfield and ommadawn!!!!) the NHS being recognised, and the dancing and dizzy

but I thought Maccy was awful, absolutely awful – like an old woman who shouldnt be allowed to sing anymore.

Watching it now, I think its a load of BALLBAG!

Paul mcartney should die and never be remembered. Ass cancer would be fitting. Or I should torture him…..one or the other.

The jist of this is that I dislike the cunt.

Mc Cartney was shit, but I thought the rest of the ceremony was pretty incredible. I can’t even begin to imagine the level of technical production that went into making that thing happen.

I say we rally the troops and have that mcartney cunt Hung draw and quartered for crimes against humanity.

i met him in london once,we chatted about the weather, what a jolly fellow.

What’s wrong with Paul McCartney? He seems perfectly sound.

It’s a disgusting waste of money but I had to watch it just to see what we are wasting money on.

I have to say that I was quite impressed by the whole industrial revolution bit and the music involved. The rest of it was a bit lame though. I agree that Mclartney was a poor choice, but who would everyone else choose to close it?

Surely the NHS bit was a bit of a pisstake though. Haha, look at all the money we are throwing down the drain so fat cats and corporations can leech off the back of the olympic games whilst you are close to crumbling and we are planning to privatise you and make more money for the very same elite circle whilst the little people suffer. I guess it was Danny Boyle’s vision and nod towards the NHS, but still, you know what I mean. A bit sick like. No pun intended.

Tom jones, with middle aged women throwing their pants at him 🙂

just seen bits of the closing ceremony – on one level its impressive but other than things like LED lighting so much of it and the content looks like it could have been all done a decade or more ago.

Even the design and decor other than the LEDs look like 1990s era light entertainment shows.

Plus NL and BE put that level of production into their raves but keep them affordable and more accessible than the Olympics…

in many ways its a great shame we didn’t get the chance instead of AU in the 2000 (when times were better) and AU get the olympics now – they are probably in better political and economic shape than us and could have also done it with even more solar power and high tech stuff as their Asian neighbours would be able to help them out more.

Only in Britain would we try and “party like its 1998” 😉

I though on the whole given the task etc it went very well.

We did quite well at the sport bit of it – just that the rest of it shows that popular culture in the UK has stagnated in a decade (I had some concerns this was the case but as I rarely watch telly only now realised this was the case).
