  • Who thinks we’ve walked on the Moon? Who thinks it’s all a load of bollocks?

    Discuss.

I knew someone would post that.

Of course they did! As if the Americans would not go to such a large reserve of cheese!

    Yes I believe they did. I have had many discussions revolving around conspiracy theories and this one I have the ultimate answer to;

I don’t think that the USSR would have given up on the space race just because America said “we landed on the moon” USSR had spies everywhere (so did the yanks) and if they knew all about the atom bomb from day one there is no way they would have been able to keep this from the commies. Also the soviet tracking stations would have tracked the whole mission. Ok now I have seen tons of conspiracy videos and listen to talks/seminars by people on all sorts of theories(it’s actually a hobbie of mine to listen to crack pots like David Ickle) and I don’t believe in any.

Don’t see why not. I mean Wallice and Grommit made it so…..

I was expecting a semi-serious debate and possibly some conspiracy theories.

Do you think we have walked on the Moon?

I personally am not sure. There is compelling evidence either way.

My only doubt has nothing to do with all of the usual reasons why people believe it to have been faked.

I have a fairly good telescope that is able to image the surface of the moon in pretty good detail (craters within craters etc). Now my telescope is around £500 worth of kit. There are super-duper telescopes out there now both on the surface of the Earth (now with the ability to filter out the disturbance caused by the Earth’s atmosphere) and in space.

So my question is, why have we never seen any photos of any of the equipment that has been left behind? Surely this is something that someone with good enough equipment would be able to do easily?

The clangers looted that shit man

the Moon is too far away to see even large bits of it with the best telescopes currently available.

various nations (not just USA) have left a lot of stuff behind on the Moon (or near it)

and US spacecraft have identified some of it.

TBH even at the height of the Cold War faking a Moon landing would have leaked out somehow, (even if it were more recently along with everything else that has leaked from Washington) it would have cost nearly as much to fake it as to actually go there and caused far more reputational damage to the USA than even if the Soviets had got their first.

Also things like rockets can be detected from many miles away so both USA and USSR knew exactly what spacecraft had been launched.

Ironically it was space exploration which helped divert the best brains and technology of the Soviets and USA (and to some extent still does) towards peaceful uses of technology, particularly miniaturised electronics and long distance telecommunication. in many ways it was the other way round, stuff like moon landings, rockets, spacecraft helped inspire creative works from Hollywood to Hilversum – from movies and TV to product design – especially if you grew up in the 70s/80s this was apparent. Also every boffin involved with spacecraft was one less person who could be building an atom bomb (although the skills involved are transferrable (same as with broadcast engineering and telecoms) and can be used for either, in those days engineers multi tasking on projects was less common.

Deez posted a NASA 15 year plan the pther day and i’m sure it said that they are going back in 5 years. Also did you know that the flag was blow over when they launched back the the command module?? AND the flag has now lost all its colour???

AND WHO FILMED THE LUNAR MODULE TAKING OFF!!!

Bart Sibrel is one of m fav idiots to listen to.

If you want to see his craporama documentary with a really annoying female narrator then fill your boots

    Next question then.

Assuming we have been to the moon. Why have we not been back? Or even sent a rover? Have we been warned off? Is there a secret alien base on the moon?

The Americans did, until about 1972. Apollo 17 was the last.

By that time the rest of the World outside NASA had already got bored with it – and within the USA the Left wanted the public money spent on social projects instead and the Right wanted NASA to make stuff to blow the Soviets up with.

Also with the advances in technology (especially digital cameras and memory) and with the space agencies worldwide having tighter budgets for anything other than launching comms satellites (which to be fair are of wider benefit) its now far easier and cheaper to send an unmanned lunar probe to orbit the Moon and take pictures of whatever bits they want. Once the probe is done with and has gathered its data its normally deliberately crashed into the Moons surface (rather than go into a random orbit and collide with a communications satellite or worse, something else important some other nation has sent up there which tends to spark diplomatic incidents). After all if the whole world (well JP, CN and IN at least) is also taking pictures of the moon then at least everyone knows where the old spacecraft are

but if there are intelligent aliens up there eventually one day they are likely to dump all the crap us humans have left around the Moon in the middle of public squares worldwide as a protest against the mess us humans are managing to make even in space.
