Younger Scots ‘losing’ their rolling Rs – BBC News

I seen a story about this in a tabloid a few days ago and took a few photos so i didn’t have to buy the paper. hadn’t got around to reading it yet but the headline was ‘Death to the Scottish Accent’ I think they are blaming broadcasters who speak in the Queens English for this.

I myself think all Scots should get into a routine of rolling their R’s with saying ‘Round the Rock the Ragged Rascal Ran’ at least once a day

Have you walked 500 miles? Have you walked 500 more?

Find out if you are entitled to compensation by ringing the pro-claimers now on……………….

The Proclaimers are one of the most popular tracks on Dutch pirate stations in Groningen province….

It is true the Scottish media is diluted by networking from English stations; but I believe the Proclaimers more than the tabloids. Folk have different dialects across Scotland, some use the R and others do not (if they don’t use the R some English people cannot understand them!) It may coincidentally be less common in Gronings dialect than Standaardnederlands…
