- time speeding up at parties? does anyone else feel like time is being sped up at parties? I mean you get in there and it just seems like a couple of hours before the daylight is getting into the warehouse and everyones starting to clear up and disperse.. yet I know it was at least 12 hours I was raving for... :you_crazy

A cab driver has been accused of speeding in his Vauxhall Cavalier - at 420mph! Tom Matthews was snapped in his 12-year-old diesel car in a 30mph zone. He received notice of a £60 fine and three penalty points - and then he saw the recorded speed was 420mph. "I drive an old Cavalier, not a jumbo jet," Tom, 34, told The Sun. "According to this I've broken the land speed record." Tom was clocked as he drove a woman home in Newport, Gwent, at 2.20am. Mid and South Wales Safety Camera Partnership apologised and blamed "an employee processing error". Tom says he will fight the penalty notice if he has to. "There has been a printing error. If they insist I was going that fast I should be a Grand Prix driver - I'm wasted in taxis," he said.

- UK army tested ‘stay awake’ pills 'Zombies' It works by "turning off" a person's need to sleep, and allowing them to remain mentally awake for days on end. Its makers say there are no side effects, but experts are worried about the drug being abused. In the US, where it is easier to get hold of, revising students and clubbers are known to use it to keep going. Speaking after Wednesday's hearing in Westminster, Dr Casey said Modafinil had been tested by Qinetiq, formerly known as the Defence Research Agency, in conjunction with caffeine. It had not yet been approved for use by British soldiers but Qinetiq had asked the MoD for funds to carry out further tests, she said. - Speeding ticket to blind man A deaf and blind man has said he was shocked after police issued him with a speeding ticket. Martyn Styles said he was at his son's Kent school when the car he owns was filmed almost 200 miles away in Hull. When the letter arrived, he could not see it and gave it to his wife, Dawn, to read. "She was stunned and could not believe it," he said. Humberside Police said they wanted to reassure the pair they had nothing to worry about if it was a mistake. Mr Styles said he and his wife returned from his nine-year-old son's school at 1300 BST on the day of the offence and CCTV captured his car at 1205 BST on the A1079 Beverley Road in Hull. The letter from Humberside Police said there was "photographic, videographic or radar evidence" of Mr Styles's car being driven at 36mph in a 30mph zone in his Renault Scenic Privilege. It said he would be fined £60 and have three points put on his licence. Mr Styles, 44, said: "I took the letter to Kent Police and an officer looked at me and she couldn't believe it. "How could I drive that car?" 'Nothing to worry about' He added: "Kent Police asked me if I have a driving licence and I don't - other people drive my car." Mrs Styles, 29, said she drove the car for short distances from their home in Paddock Wood but never travelled far. A spokeswoman for Humberside Police said: "We would like to reassure the couple that if a mistake has been made they have nothing to worry about. "We need them to return the ticket and a covering letter so this matter can be fully investigated." Mr Styles said he was happy with the police response but still wanted to the CCTV image to be sent to the family. He said he was now also worried that his car registration number had been cloned. Always wished you could take the helm of a futuristic spacecraft, seeking out new life and new civilisations . and all from the comfort of a West Midlands apartment? One British designer has gone further than wishing; he.s living the dream. It.s long been recognised that die-hard Star Trek fans are among the most (delete as appropriate) devoted | obsessed | just plain weird that the film industry has ever engendered; aficionados often dress in 24th century attire, can learn and correspond or converse in the languages of the various alien races, and even be joined in Klingon wedlock in a ceremony complete with mock betleH combat (that.s a sort of metre-long mezzaluna with a bad attitude, for the uninitiated). One fan (and rarely does the term.s etymological root, fanatic, seem more pertinent), though, has boldly taken his devotion beyond the convention hall and converted his one-bedroom flat into a fully-featured replica of the interior of a Federation spacecraft. Tony Alleyne, an interior designer living in Hinckley in Leicestershire, has exercised his trade on his own apartment in a quest to create a totally immersive Star Trek environment . in his own words, he didn.t want just a Trek .theme. but for visitors to feel they .were not in the 21st century.. To this end, he has faithfully reproduced a variety of features culled from the cult show.s various sets, designing and building each from scratch. Starting with style and fittings modelled on the Starship Enterprise, Tony has continued to develop and update his décor and the flat now takes its inspiration from one of the several Trek spin-offs, Voyager. Features include voice-activated lighting, command and operations consoles, LCARS terminals (Library Computer Access and Retrieval System . I know, obvious when you think about it) and, according to at least one reviewer, a .fully functional transporter room. (does NASA know about this?). Even areas not often depicted in the series, such as the kitchen and bathroom, have been made over in 24th century style. Tony isn.t alone in his efforts; German fan Robby Amper, for example, has created a replica Enterprise bridge in his Munich apartment, to be used in the making of fan films. The attention to detail and insistence on the quality of the finish, though, sets the British designer apart. More than just a tribute to his beloved series, Tony views his creation as an attempt to challenge and possibly overturn some of the established principles of interior design. He.s chosen a good subject; Star Trek from its earliest days has been noted for the efforts above and beyond the call of duty by its creator, Gene Roddenbury, and his creative staff to make their future world as plausible as possible by extrapolating today.s social, cultural and technological trends into the future. Sadly (and not a little ironically, given Star Trek.s efforts to depict an .unmonied. society), it.s been revealed that Tony.s obsession has cost him more than a few strange looks and some gentle ribbing down the pub; the intrepid designer, we learn, is bankrupt. Determined to turn his devotion to the series and its distinctive styling into a paying proposition, Tony hoped that the example of his 24th century des. res. would inspire other fans to hire him to perform similar conversions. Despite taking out credit to the tune of £100,000 (on top of the £12,000 cost of the actual conversion) to market the service, however, there have been no takers. Tony blames marketing and merchandising advisors in both the UK and US for encouraging him to invest too heavily in a high-risk proposition. Even attempts to sell the apartment on have been unsuccessful; an eBay auction in 2004 offered the property for $1m but, possibly because of its location, was unsuccessful. Obsessed fan or design visionary? A bit of both, in all likelihood.
