  • Given the nature of testicular cancer – it is one of the few that affects young men – I am posting this poll to raise awareness of the issue in the wake of a poll just published by Cancer Research UK.

If you dont know how to self check the how to information is in the second link – the only time we can feel up our testicles and not be told off for it :groucho:

The links for this poll are:

The article on the Cancer Reasearch UK poll

Information on testicular cancer and how to self check

The story of an 18 year old who had the disease

    Fair play to you Raj

probably a subject that gets ignore but should be taken into consideration.

    Nice one

At the moment the poll is reading five people that self check but only 4 people that know how! :crazy_diz

That 1 person best start reading the info that Raj has linked to.

    Quote:
The most common sign which may turn out to be testicular cancer is a lump or swelling, usually painless.

Men are encouraged to check themselves regularly for these, ideally after a hot bath or shower, which relaxes the muscles and makes this easier.

The growing tumour may also make the testicle feel heavy, produce discomfort in the groin area, or make the testicle or the scrotal sac painful.

There are a number of techniques commonly used to confirm whether these symptoms are caused by cancer, or something less sinister.

When testicular cancer is present, blood tests can reveal the presence of certain chemicals called “tumour markers” which are not around at such high levels normally.

Doctors can examine lumps in the testicle using ultrasound – although if a tumour is present, cancer is presumed as most tumours in the testicle are malignant.

No excuse for not knowing now – take good care of them – they are the only set you will ever have….

Yep, well worth checking. Had a bit of a scare myself a few years back. Ultrasound was clear thankfully. If you’re worried, get it checked.
