Although I’m sure everyone’ll understand why having just spent the last 10 days nursing my mother in hospital for severe alcohol related illness and had my own brushes with it I’m a bit biased on the subject. What are your views on the drug? Harmless or not? Give us your stories…

Think it is more dangerous than some of the other drugs…Why..It is easyer for the young people to get at..Read sometimes threads here, of people who want to buy drugs..Have never seen a thread bout somone needing to buy alcohol..

alcohol is one of the easiest drugs to get and one of the ones which does least for you

IMO it should be a class A as it has no medical use and is extremely addictive

i have known several alcoholics in denial who have ruined their families lives and their own health at the same time but claimed that as it was legal it must be ok

No matter what drugs you take, if you take them regularly enough they will cause harm.

      very true

Taken many drugs for (too) many years, but it was only when I started drinking vodka a bit too often that I developed liver disease. I began chucking up blood in the morning, so I stopped drinking, but found out later the damage was already done, and the doc tells me it was the vodka wot done it! Now I have to take a few dozen legal drugs a day, and I rattle when I walk!:lol_teeth

I do occasionally have a can of cider, but as I only like the taste of Strongbow Super or K, which are both fairly strong, I have to limit it to one can or my kidneys kick me in the back all night! I can quite happily take it or leave it though. Your boss obviously has a much worse problem than I did, or I am sure he would not risk it again. Although I do feel for him, or anyone with a habit of any kind, I can’t help feeling that he has taken and abused a liver that could have gone to someone who wouldn’t drink. :annoyed: (I feel like a fascist now, for saying that, cos I know how difficult it can be to avoid your favorite vice, especially when it is as socially acceptable as drinking, but it still seems a little unfair of him.) Sounds like he needs some decent help – which is a lot harder to find than an offy! Sad but true!!!:bitter: :head_bang

Ohhh,i agree very much..Feel the same way too,im sure the liver could have helped a person that would apriciate it more..A young father or mother, with small kids, who at this time are having their life ruind..Dont think he deserved it,he is 65 and i feel he is laughing at us..

wow where did that thread suddenly appear from :wtf:

Lot of years ago Doc 🙂

There is harm both to the body and the soul. The one who involves him or herself with alcohol is a fool.

One of the TRULY addictive drugs in terms of physical dependency. Easy to obtain. Socially acceptable and highly damaging to internal organs.

a councillor once told me “if alcohol was invented in todays world it would be made class A immediately” ..

certainly easier obtain to than many other drugs but there are a shit ton of double standards about exactly how socially acceptable alcohol use is – in Blighty its socially acceptable for a middle class person in their late youth/early middle age to quietly drink themselves to death but this is only because if they do not openly show aggression to others nor get into a road accident and are in employment its hard to detect their addiction, added to which there are a number of other medical conditions that can present after age 40+ (especially for males) which have similar symptoms.

Younger people now get pulled up a lot quicker for drinking especially if it leads to them doing silly things in town centres full of CCTV; also in my area (mixed urban/rural) a lot of them are very dependent on access to motor cars for work and socialising and random vehicle checks by the cops are not uncommon. I’ve noticed all the townie pubs and clubs are being closed (quite frankly I am glad to see the back of them).

I suspect though this just pushes the drinking to weekend binges on urban estates where people are still wrecking their health but it goes unnoticed as they just stay below the limit that results in domestic arguments and cops called out (there’s always 2 or 3 units patrolling my estate 24/7 in summer looking out for things like this)

I’d say yes of course, but I also think it depends on the person. And the fact that it is so easily available and used more than most other drugs gives it a worse rep than I think it really deserves.
