  • I would like to re-partition one of my drives and I hear a Linux Boot up disc can do this without having to re-install any software or loosing any data.

Whereas windows will require me to re-install and I will lose all my data.

Can anyone help? I’ve got about 800MB left of the partition which is a mega pain.

Before you do anything back it up mate… I lost my whole music collection a while ago trying to partition my spare harddrive :hopeless:

No problem – we are talking about a backup rather than a restore point.

See I can live without the music part, but it’s the software and other data that I don’t want to lose. This is my main c drive that I need to partition –

I hear the alarm bells ringing

Do you actually plan on installing Linux ? or just use it to repartition ?

If you want to install Linux then they tend to do it all for you repartition, setup a boot loader etc.. Without breaking your windows installation.

If you want to just repartition then get a copy of partition magic which is pretty good for resizing thing without reinstalling anything.

As above, BACKUP and backup some more…

This is potentially dangerous, however you do it.

Yes, you could possibly use a Linux live CD to mount and repartition the existing NTFS volume. Still dangerous though as a multitude of things can go pear-shaped.

I can see the dilemma though if you don’t have original disks for the software.

is there no way you could simply get a external drive and move away data/documents to this and anything else what doesn’t need to be on C:?

This is probably a good Idea as they are cheap as chips nowadays..
