BBC News – Will legalised marijuana lead to an economic boom?

Anyone fancy a trip to Washington?

    Sweet lol

As for the economy, two effects, yes at first small businesses will prosper growing and selling weed, as it becomes more socially acceptable these small businesses will be bought or driven out of business by larger commercial ventures cornering the market, and taxes will be raised on them same as tobacco……… BUT it will also have a knock on negative effect on other businesses, alcohol sales will drop, as will many other things as stoned people cant be bothered to shop or do activities lol

The biggest negative I can see is more people will become addicted to tobacco by mixing in spliffs & bongs ( this is how I became addicted to tobacco and is my only regret from smoking weed )

What we really need before legalising weed is another smokable mixer that is non addictive, and no where near as damaging as tobacco to be invented

And yes you might say smoke it without a mixer ( which I dont like as is mongs me out when pure ), or eat it ( which is nice but takes too long to kick in, and lasts to long IMO )

American stoners can still shop on line and their other social activities are eating and watching TV which are fairly widespread USA activities….#

they might sell less hard liquor but small consumption of craft beers (US version of real ale) will still be popular as it can be milder….

I’m not allowed in anyway without pre applying for Visa as I have a criminal record for drugs ….

I’m not sure whether it will be a major economic boom though I suspect that Mr Obama will deliberately drag his heels on enforcing the federal legislation or use it to bust very large organisations, thus creating an American form of gedoogbeleid where the use is endured but not encouraged.

In any case I’d let the Americans test the idea and the Dutch copy it and do a better job

I take it it will still be against Federal Law? Trust the USA to come up with a system even more complex than the Netherlands discrimination approach.

Yup still illegal under federal law.

Hopefully this will lead the way for other states to follow and then maybe other countries.

Omg haha I misread the title and I thought it said “cannibalism legalized in Washington”

I was like “this is the start of the zombie apocalypse” :yakk:

Most American tokers I know don’t use tobacco, but do use dried leaf and tips, kind of a “wholespliff” effect.

be interested to know how they roll that. we did try smoking with dried leaves back when we had a ready supply of same but didn’t find they burned too well. (or too fast or something – i forget the details  )

Well, that’s true, spliffs tend to self extinguish when rolled without tobacco.

Typically chemicals like saltpetre (potassium nitrate) are added to tobacco and or cigarette papers to keep them burning.

Going “organic” means no chemicals like the saltpetre, although tobacco generally has dozens if not hundreds of additives/toxins released when burnt.

That is definitely not true. I roll pure joints all the time and can leave them for like 5 minutes and come back and take a toke and that shit will burn up again as bright as babylon.

If your pure joints go out you’re either a) a bad roller or b) getting buds that aren’t dried/cured/flushed properly
