I was recently caught having a joint with a couple of friends, all under 18. Two police officers jumped us from behind and gave us a lecture before confiscating said spliff and just tossing it. They couldn’t search us as they were without a female officer. They took our names and addresses and I have been told that I now have a warning and the next time I am caught with cannabis I will be immediately arrested, in his words I have been given a “yellow card”. This reeks of bullshit. For a start, they have absolutely no evidence. One of the officers pulled out a camera and then put it away again without taking any pictures (nice guy). I personally was not in posession and was not the one holding the joint when they approached us. They didn’t escort us home or call our parents. My friend reckons they are lying about giving a caution just to scare us and won’t even file anything. I’m just really confused as to what has actually happened. Surely they can’t give me a warning on the grounds of standing next to someone who was holding a joint, and without telling my parents about it?

nothing to worry about – in fact better than the “correct” procedure for under 18s which is to arrest and give a Formal Reprimand and your parents getting involved, perhaps even your school/college authorities notified (plus these days probably being referred to some poxy anti-drugs detox type place!)

this is TBH way more hassle than just the bobbies trying to frighten you a bit…

Yeah thats exactly what happened to me when i was found with about 0.5 of a gram of draw on me. They did metion sending me to a detoxy place for counciling but luckly that never happened.
What i would say is DO be careful i know its just a little bit of ganja, but it can turn into alot of truble if you are caught with it a few times. BIG fines court dates ect. just aint worth it.

That’s happened to me at least 5 or 6 times now, they always claim not to have the relevant paperwork on them at the time.

Cautions mean pretty much FA unless they actually take you down to the station.

I think weed has pretty much legalised its self in this country at this stage.

Yer i get wer ya cumin from.i have found the reaction of police vairies wideley from simpley confiscating a 10bag to being pined up against a wall and given the full treatment(patted dawn and names taken ect) for the same amount of bud….also they said letters wuld be sent home to parents and we all wuld be put on sum cind of drug user data base..this turned out to be a totaly empty threat (i dont think this database even exists)????
i conclude from dis that FED LIE THROUGH THAIR TEETH………

most of the time the cops do take down details but rarely do anything with them unless you keep getting caught..

It does, but its the NHS which runs it, not the Police.

I don’t think the cops can refer anyone without arresting them first – the can only refer people to rehab on arrest after they have committed certain crimes (the sort of thefts that addicts do) and if they drug test positive. When they go for rehab those drug agencies (not the Police) will send their details up to the NHS.

Some forces do however pass on anonymised info about how many people they stop for drugs, what ages they are and what they have been caught with to the local Drugs and Alcohol Action Team, but not detailed personal info.
