Cos acid is illegal, an incredibly difficult synthesis using an incredibly difficult to source precursor.
There are very few people with the skills, equipment and access to precursors which is what causes these massive shortages. There was a bust in Wales in the 70’s which at the time was producing 90% of the worlds LSD. Then in 2002 I believe when William Leonard Pickard was busted in Kansas, he too had been producing around 90% of the worlds LSD.
Those are the reasons it becomes so scarce.
