  • I have been to a few free parties now, mostly in buildings in fairly urban areas as it’s been winter time, but plan to go to some outdoor ones this summer too, i have really enjoyed these, and would like to get more involved.

You often hear about free parties causing problems for locals, like keeping them up all night, or trashing the local area and someones building, or just intimidating local people. Of cuase there is lots of PLUR etc within the party, and this is a great thing, but it just feels like somethimes this does not extend to beyond the party, and i think it should do. I do have this question on my conscience a bit,

‘if the free party scene causes such problems, is it really a good thing to involve myself with?’

Or is it just a case of steering clear of the ‘bad’ ones? Any thoughts?

There may be a minority of anti-social behaviour within the free party scene but it is worse in your average town/city anywhere in the UK. A lot of the anti-social behaviour/conflicts exist because of geography/terrain, where parties are incorrectly held in areas where locals can easily hear the noise.

TBH most Welsh parties are way better than English ones – if only for the simple reason that they can be held in more remote areas.

Locals who do not even realise something has happened in their area can’t claim to be intimidated by it – there are some crews who do parties where they get zero complaints because the rigs are at the bottom of a valley. Make good use of your surroundings 🙂

So true …. well said. This is always what makes me wonder why when there is only one noise complaint why the police still feel justified to close down a party when loadsa people are having fun, and most of them are staying outta trouble and learning how to get along, when otherwise they would be getting bored and causing trouble. I will get my head around it one day…. there are systems which play too loud don’t know why sometimes but it seems like a loudest rig contest, we live and learn.

    Great thread.

    Great thread.

TBH most times when the cops are there it is more than just one noise complaint, or for some other reason such as roads being blocked and people can’t park or get to their farms. (before cops had airwave radios mates of mine had scanners and they could pick up details of when cops were called to raves!)

There are times when one wealthy person makes a big fuss because they live in some mansion house down the way from the rave venue; but most of the time it is a number of complaints received by both cops and the local councils because the sound has travelled across to nearby villages and housing estates.

This is a particular problem in the East of England, some parts of which are mostly flat!

I was just looking at a 1:25000 OS map of the area where the big community rave at Ramsholt was held last year. it was such a large link up in a field with no hills betwen the rig and the villages that it could be heard for miles around, so the cops get angry calls from everywhere within a 5 mile radius (there are lots of villages nearby)

Even a small stack makes a surprising amount of noise outside the “target zone” – IMO every rig owner should go on a wander in the woods around the rave and see how far the sound travels (and be prepared to adjust levels or move stacks if necessary).

The best outdoor one is one that your party people can stomp to but no one else hears! It can be done – there are events where I have had to navigate to them only by watching for lights and movement in the distance, but when you get to the actual rave area the stacks are pumping out loads…

was looking at last years local news reports for the East – it seems that some parties weren’t stopped as they “did not cause any problems” – this is the sort of event we want to put on…

Trying to find some Norfolk parties when you can’t get signal and you aint used to the area is mind blowing, determination gets you there cause you cant hear the party you arrive tripping with fustration and it makes me wanna scream somtimes pffftttt :mobile_ph  :get_you: :toxic: :bounce_m:

Sorry i had to let that out
