  • Hello all,

just wondered if any people could give an idea of what I would need to drag in order to live if I were to accept a job in London?

I know some areas are more expensive than others, so assume it is to be in a moderately upmarket area.

    Grateful for any feedback.

Hey, not too sure how to help, as I think it really depends what your after…..

Whether a single / studio room, shared house, 1 – 2 bed flat / house etc

and what area your looking to move to as they can vary from inner london to outer
(also some jobs offer ‘inner and outer’ london waiting’ to help with living costs)

whether you need to take into consideration travel expenses
( some companies offer interest free loans as this can set you back £2000 if living out side london (zone 6 – 1)

? Child care / nursery etc

?parking permit if you’ve a car as lots of london areas you need to pay to park outside your own house,

And I’m not sure of the difference from where you are living now to london in rent etc

basically I’ve realised I babbeling and know fuck all to help :you_crazy

But good luck with your move if you decided to do it

me brother in law has been livin inLOndon for some years and earns about 22K I think, he rents a house with a couple of others has no car and is always skint !!! he loves livin there though :weee:

I live in East London, which is relatively cheap in comparison to the rest of London. I have a 2 bed flat with a garden and it costs £730 pm, which is quite cheap for London. My council tax is £100 pm and with water, electricity, gas, etc myself and my partner pay out just over a grand just to live here and thats not including food, beers, clothes, music, etc. All in all London can be an expensive place but once you’ve paid out all your bills and rent, you can eat, shop and socialise quite cheaply. Theres always loads of freestuff going on too, festivals, parties etc.
if your going to live in London I think East London is best. Its relatively cheap, really mixed, has a great vibe, loads of character and has loads going on all the time.

Thanks for the replies. It sounds to me like I would need at least £20,000+ p.a. Had to smile as I finished reading Tank Girl’s reply; what are you on, girl? Whatever it is, I want some!

    cheaper than Exeter then?

    fucksake

glad i don’t live in London though… i can see green and blue from here

I think that a place tends to be wot u make it. I’m sure Exeter has its negative aspects too…

Anyway, i’m just about to move to London, so stop slagging it!

Anyway Andy, its probably not wot you will earn this year that is the significant figure, but wot u will be earning in 5 years time.

When i first started working there, a work colleague said to me ‘welcome to the only successful economy in the UK’. And he was right, staff turnover in London is really high, so people tend to progress faster, and therefore earn more.

I’m gonna find a cheap houseshare for the first year, to keep costs down, and for a bit of company. I’m looking at stuff around £500 a month (inc all bills), which is not that bad really.

Have a look on moveflat.com, its a killer app, if your london bound, on a budget…

hope thats a bit more useful than some other comments, I think you know who I mean:groucho: :groucho:

London is a wicked place to live. I wouldnt want to live anywhere else.

I was born in London and lived there for a great deal of my life and it can be fun – although like any other city or large town you need to be careful about personal security.

Keep your shared flat secure and if you’ve got it (phones, bling etc) don’t flaunt it in the street as there’s often someone who would like to take it off you if its worth anything….

People may seem insular but a lot of that is self-defence from all the wannabe gangsters and blaggers. But these can be found in Manchester, Hull and any other large place.

Provided you are sensible, stay away from the particularly nasty estates late at night (the local papers will soon tell you where these are!) and don’t get into the UK Garage/Grime scene you are unlikely to get shot at.

been told this is good andy :weee:

nice link Raj, i’ve heard you can get almost anything/anyone on Gumtree:wink:

thats what I was told too :weee:
