Roisin, when we have further info it will be posted here. You could try http://www.freetekno.cz if you understand Czech or have a friend who does…
I had a look there, and all I saw on the link which mentioned Czechtek was a link to a news site and a picture of two blokes with uniforms marked “POLICIE” and a nasty-looking baton (bigger than the ones our cops get!), looking at a hippy 🙁
Last years Czechtek was busted by their police on direct instructions of their Prime Minister (a 34 year old :wtf:- he’s younger than some of the ravers I know…). they had a few good days raving but I’ve seen the pics and the POLICIE do not look at all friendly and have guns/CS gas etc. I think they may have left alone the foreigners but come down really hard on the locals later…some CS gas was discharged as well.
Although other politicians criticised him for this actions he stood by them as “we need to clamp down on these unlicensed events as now we are in the EU :wtf:” it would appear that for this situation to arise in a country which has had this event for years on end previously, there has
been a large backlash against it for some reason.
This situation means that the Czech rave/alternative community need to plan their event more discreetly and carefully if it is to go ahead, and naturally would not want too much given away too soon (same as situation in the UK).
There are people on this board from CZ who I’m sure will provide more info when it is appropriate…March 23, 2005 at 7:40 pm #853503
Although the turtles may not have looked friendly, they did give us directions to the party!(Although it was fairly obvious-follow the trucks!) Only one guy got a kicking, this poor French guy who the policie thought had helped organise it. As for the CS gas, that was just their scare tactics on the Monday to frighten half the people and some of the rigs away, so we would move on more peacefully in the morning. It worked…April 14, 2005 at 2:26 pm #853497Anonymous

I read in the international BBC News that “Czech-tek wrecker” Stanislav Gross (their 34 year old Prime Minister) may well resign because of a personal financial scandal.
This may be good news, but I hope though it doesn’t mean a worse person takes power..
What I wonder more and more though is why did the people of CZ support their leader to spend what must have been thousands of Euros on the police operation to bust that party – particularly when it brings in a good amount of tourist revenue? The impression I get is that the foreign tourists who arrived there were far better behaved than the stag party crews that arrive otherwise.April 14, 2005 at 11:35 pm #853502General Lighting wrote:though it doesn’t mean a worse person takes power..

even the dutch feel the pinch, despite having proved that promoting free will, informed choice and liberty leads to less drug abuse 😐
it’s a ‘war on drugs’ :ar15:
and people who have no problem with people who take drugs :ar15: :ar15:
and ‘we’ have the ££ower to wield over our poorer neighbours, despite what may be good for them
