  • Hey,

i was just wondering what kind of education you got from your schools on drug use. We got a pair of absolute idiots come and lie to use for 4 hours. Most of what that told me i took as truth untill about last year when i started to read up for myself and experiment. They greatly exagerated the negative effects and didnt say anything about the positive ones. I know that it would be odd for the schools to have a pro drug attitude… but lieing to the kids will only make them more likely ignore the infomation given entirely, which would be dangerous u think?

jsut want to know your experiances etc…

well mine was this set of ropey films from the mid 1970s about barbiturate users wearing flared trousers injecting in stairwells etc, stereotype drop outs listening to rock music etc….

a cop came to our school and showed samples of drugs and said they were very dangerous, you would die if you take them and that you also would go to jail if you were caught with them

Not quite sure what the message was – perhaps “don’t inject drugs whilst wearing flared trousers”

I expect the only change is that your anti-drugs videos now show people with mullet hairstyles listening to Howard Jones and saying “Down with Thatcher!”

TBH I do think these days there is a larger risk of overdose as drugs are cheaper and people (especially young men) are competitive and try to see how much they can take but other than that there are only two main dangers for people over 15 years old.

1] Drugs are more fun than school, particularly around exam time! This means you may not do as well in exams and it will take longer to get jobs especially when you are competing with people who didn’t take drugs and studied hard (particularly those from other cultural backgrounds). It can cause a lot of family friction as at that age your family will have to support you for longer if you need to do retakes etc…

2] for young ladies who may be wanting to start a family in the next few years (IMO its too young but a lot of girls genuinely want a baby at a young age) taking drugs (including alcohol and tobacco) is a big strain on a body which will have to provide for two people.

we had some guy that was apparently a crack user/dealer come in and tell us some of the shit that he used to get up to, like pistol whipping his m8 and blowing his ear off. although he was quite a comedian. I wasnt sure wether to belive the whole thing or noy.

    must have lucked out:

had a dutch teacher who set drugs as a research topic and told us to come back with facts not morality:idea:

Hey Im a young persons drugs worker in south wales… I go into schools and do work shops on a harm reduction basis!! Where we discuss drugs and how to do them in a safer way!! 💡

    now this sounds pretty sensible

mind you i know some addicts who would put people off certain drugs for life..

    :surprised

We got some police guy come in and just tell you really negative effects of everything. Such as if you take a pill “YOU WILL DIE” first time I dropped I was shitting myself because of that dick.

and then of course when you take drugs and don’t drop dead immediately any other reasonable advice is no longer trusted…

TBH I don’t think the cops alone should do this education now. A cop can of course tell people what the penalties are; but the actual health side of drugs education should IMO be done by workers trained by the NHS or working closely with the public health services.

Also, its pointless telling kids not to do drugs if they have already (perhaps due to bad parenting, poverty or depression) been allowed to reach a state where they genuinely do not care about their own lives or the effect their lifestyle has on others…

i think most parents would do better to explain drugs to their kids. If your children know they can trust you on the subject they may be able to tell you before they do them. or at least that they have done them so as not to kee pyou totally in the dark.. but i recon most parents would prefer to ignore the subject or dismiss the idea that drugs can be ok at all. It a pitty..

I am with you on this one. My son came to me after his school talked about drugs and he asked a lot of questions about it. Makes me think that they didn’t really explain it well for the students. Good thing my son came to me, so we sat down and talked about it and I answered his questions as honestly as possible. I also explained to him my views regarding it and that I wouldn’t want him to try it any time soon. I guess all parents can hope for is that our kids will be responsible enough not to try it and if they do, hope for the best that they know what they just learned about it.

This is why you went to your first rave? :laugh_at:

We used to have an ex smack head what went through the whole national curriculum of “drugs kill if you look at them” speal. Was kinda funny as one day she just vanished and never turned up again. Wonder what she was doing ahem*.
