schools must think all 15-16 year olds are mugs or summat!

“widely used illegal drug, am associated with “dance” music, many become addicted… what am i? ecstasy!”

“if you take drugs, you are playin russian roulette.”

“many pills contain poisons, such as rat poison.”

“if you take ecstasy, you may take something lethal, thinkin it is e. is your life really worth this?”

“many cannabis smokers drop their grades”

when you got nearly all the class pissin themselves, even people who dont take drugs, cos they know its the most spin-doctored shit ever, you know it aint workin.

about a year ago i argued with the bint who was basically like “you can drink, if you are responsible, but dont take drugs” – obviously dont make sense. and i started all these pretty sound arguments, and i got taken to the headteacher (quite a thing for most people, it’s a 1500 pupil-strong school) cos i “knew too much about drugs”

what the fuck, they tryin to dumb us down or summat? people like partyvibers should take the fuckin drug classes, cos a balanced approach wud save more kids takin the wrong route than “dont do this its bad” – everyone knows a few people gettin into skag at bout my age… drug education works for shit!

i sware a book should be made to teach kids about drugs…. using some of the glowing reports from erowid … as well as some of the … habituation/addiction/trainwreck stories from erowid…. plus the ‘facts’ would give a better perspective that i recon most kids get.

My drug education classes were really good at school…..

We had a couple of local coppers come to visit and they had a metal briefcase with drug parifinalia and a bean and small ammount of different drugs so we could see what they looked like.

At the end we were given a couple of booklets about drugs, one really negative and one that was really “we know your gonna use them so do it safely” booklet. Talked about the effects of the different drugs and how to safely take them. raaa

You can thank my generation for that :laugh_at:(the early 90s rave scene took off seriously in the Thames Valley). There was a heavy human cost though as early ravers learnt the hard way and many got addicted or sectioned due to the backlash caused by the earlier drugs education (which was as crap as what boothy is getting now).

The real problem though is a lot of teachers and school governors who feel that progressive drugs education is “giving in to the criminals” and a “source of indiscipline”.

Also, the damage caused by inaccurate drugs education often does not manifest itself until teens have either left school or been permanently excluded.

By that time the school has already written them off and they become “somebody elses problem”, whilst the headteacher claims he/she is “dealing robustly with indiscipline caused by drugs”

Cheers GL and all the Ravers of that generation :laugh_at:

I will admit the drugs education we had in Weston-super-Mare (one of my schools) was piss poor, kinda dont do drugs, 1 E will kill you, Take a trip you will go to hell and never come out of it, 1 sniff of coke your hooked etc, you know the normal garbage your force fed about drugs.

It was when i went to school in Taunton that the drugs education was sensible, we would have one or two of the local coppers come down to school during lunch and they would hang out on the basketball courts and have a couple of games and chat to us. They would chat about anything including drugs and all other crime, we would also get they guys who run the local youth thingy coming down to chill and chat.

Was nice for people to be honest and treat us as adults knowing we would make our own choice no matter what they said, i think it made me more sensible with my drug use.

Also it allowed me to talk to someone about drugs when i was first dabbling and i did not get dragged to the teachers or my parents for admitting drugs. Just got friendly advice :bounce_fl

didn’t realise you were local bey

you old enough to remember pawlett manor? verbeer manor?

the only drugs education we got was a special assembly to tell us that the head had been provided with photgraphic evidence by the drug squad showing clouds of blue smoke coming out of a bush followed ‘certain individuals’ emerging from said bush, laughing their asses off. in retrospect i think they didn’t single us out because 1) photos prove nothing and 2) the cops aren’t allowed to inform on pupils to teir schools on te record. the twats

I sympathize with him,was a trying experience to say the least:laugh_at:

i got a couple of volenteers come to my school, lie about some of the drugs . over emphasise the bad point s while not really talking about the positive and then giving us a booklet called ‘drugs, the facts’ with lame information no harm reduction and some horror stories. really good …. meh…. perhaps different areas of the country have different policies or slightly different curriculum.

    this is definitely the case.

Schools are usually run by your county or unitary authority Education Department – the sort of people who are invited to give these talks in school usually reflect the same views as your headteacher, the school governors and the Council.

If a lot of them have socially conservative and/or religious views then it often reflects on the sort of “education” you get…

My drug education at school was very much like that. Then we watched a video about ecstacy and about someone who died from it from the school down the road. That freaked me out a bit planned on never trying pills cause obviously I didn’t wanna die. Then I did try them a couple of years later and realised it was bullshit. They didn’t lie about what it can do to you and I’m sure they still don’t. However they just don’t explain things properly. They don’t tell you how you get into these states where it causes serious harm. They make it sound that if you try it your fucked basically. Most people nowadays know that this isn’t the case :groucho: and find drug education very annoying because it only shows a biased approach but I can understand why its like that but it doesn’t really work.
