…………… “At the risk of making you all very cross, may I suggest that it is time the British gave up on their endless love affair with the dog,” she told an audience at the Telegraph Hay Festival.

Greer argues that the move is necessary in order to protect the English bluebell. “Even the most proactive woodland organisations like the Woodland Trust do not dare to say to dog walkers – who are about the only people who care about our woods – they don’t dare to say to them that they may not bring their dogs into the wood.”

Greer, who owns her own bluebell wood said phosohorous in dog faeces changes the chemical environment and kills off essential fungi.

The author and feminist would also, it seems, have us removed from the woods. “The real threat to our bluebells,” she said, “is the use we make of the woodlands – people running through them, taking photos of each other standing on trampled bluebells.”

“If you love your bluebells kill your dog,” she added dramatically.

I will not be killing my dog !

    Bluebells are pretty though innit!

Seriously though, I haven’t read the transcript, but how does she argue that bluebells should hold more value to us than our dogs?

    I usually like her,

but shouldnt she encourage owners to ‘just do the right thing’ and pick up the poop?

Exactly. And whilst we are on the subject, what the hell is it with people who bag up their dog shit and then leave it laying there in the wood, in a bush or on the beach etc. As if that helps! Just preserves it in a plastic cocoon!

yeh – I was really suprised when I saw that – in dorset – why make a semi effort? and then add to the pollution at the sea side? weird some people!!

TBH I think the washed up old crone is simply trying to get publicity as she’s clearly been eclipsed in the meedja by Lady Gaga etc and turning to nimbyism in her old age.

if she had a genuine interest in nature she’d know there are way more threats to bluebells than pollution from dogshit, especially as the bulk of pet dogs these days rarely seem to get the chance for a walk in the woods, let alone to shit there.

people do this in the village when I work, worse still the dogshit bags get put on top of the National Grid cabinet what the gas valves are kept in or on top of openreach (BT) cabs (I’m glad I don’t have to work on these! :yakk: ). I think TBH its some sort of a rather spiteful “dirty protest” against having to clear up after dogs….

I’d not thought of it like that – but it may be true!

I love the story of the little old lady round here – who had her handbag stolen (not that bit mind….)
and all it had in it was dog poo in plastic carrier bag – she kept in a propper black shiney handbag with a gold colour clasp, as she didnt like the idea of being seen walking with poop it in her hand…
