i’m just about to register to give blood, but i’m unsure about some things

    1. how will the fact i take drugs (inc. alcohol) effect this? i don’t want to endanger someones life rather than save it!
    2. if i ask the people at the donation thing, i wouldn’t suffer and sort of legal action by saying i take drugs would i?

    cheers,
    boothy

have you had a look on blood.co.uk ?

they may have faq’s on there like …

    http://www.blood.co.uk/pages/flash_questions.html

    dunno if thatll help mate

if not just go in and ask them … NHS guys are normally spot on and due to patient condifentiality cant walk out and shout for the nearest copper!

    easy up bro 🙂

There are so many reasons that they can turn you away… be honest about your drug taking because yes it could still be in your blood…

    I cant give blood because in 2000 I had a blood transfusion…
I would think that as a regular or habitual drug user would make you not able to give…

    sorry!

there was another htread about this recently – have a look around –

but they may not accept if I remember correctly –

just be honest as they shouldnt breach confidentiality

i cant give blood as i have recent tattoos my dad gives blood all the time they gave him gold badge lol

i give blood and take bare drugs they have never said anything so go for it mate

I was told it takes about 5 days for you body’s blood to completely renew itself. …I’m not sure how accurate that is.

About 4 years ago I gave blood on a Tuesday afternoon after a Saturday night on pills. …I still felt pretty good. I didn’t say anything to anyone. I guess it was all good.

Yeah that’s the problem though. I’ll make sure I ask. Even if I feel good, I don’t want traces of drugs given to some who is critically ill!!!

Boothy, let us know what they say please, I’d like to know if I can give too!

I can’t see it being a big problem tho, Im pretty sure you can still drink alcohol and give blood, which is a still drug… I bet that theres not really enough traces in that pint or so they take from you to effect anyone receiving it.

Man, You’ll be alrite giving blood. as long as you ain’t got aids or nothing you’ll be fine. Fair play tho geeze, giving blood is a noble thing to do. I may need that blood one day!

its only blood borne diseases the NHS are concerned about

unless any of you inject there aren’t any risks with giving blood

fair play to everyone for being considerate though, I hope when “frank” and his friends at NHS IT department read this (yes I KNOW you are watching) they take note and realise we aren’t all inconsiderate junkie scum..

I remember that discussion and its found here:

    😉

I’ve given blood a few times. As long as you’ve never used needles (which is fucking stupid anyway), haven’t had a tatoo recently, you should be ok.

It’s also good as they screen all donations, so any probs will show up and they’ll tell you about it so you can get help. (i.e. any sexual diseases- god forbid!).

Do it, it’s important and a nice feeling to do something positive.

Well I asked, just to be sure, the nurse said it wasn’t a problem as long as I hadn’t used any of the drugs I listed within the past week. She even said it with a smile and a wink :laugh_at:
