  • some more detailed discussion here (from those closer to TOR development or part of that community) – the consensus is that 70 bad exit nodes aren’t actually a great deal and less likely to be feds as it wouldn’t glean a lot of useful info. I do wonder if some blackhats do this kind of stuff as “freelance” work and sell what info they get to anyone who might pay for it; who could be feds in some countries….

I sort of feel sorry for any “freedom fighting dissidents in foreign lands” who are genuinely using TOR to protect themselves whilst doing good work – that is if these folk actually exist and are not in reality embedded CIA-agents trying to push American “free market fundamentalism” on to developing countries which might well be doing quite well on their own.

I’ve been reading a lot of UN disaster management / emergency prepardeness stuff recently so my work is prepared for such things as power cuts; disruption to the Internet and telecoms networks (much of this often caused by script kiddies latching on to whatever cause appeals to them like its simply a computer game) and the have a lot of good solid info about target hardening healthcare and humanitarian organisations for cybersecurity.

Already some particularly unpleasant things have happened in the Middle East with NGO employeers getting cyberstalked, doxxed and even physically hurt; and using stuff like TOR merely attracts unwanted attention from govts who might not be on their side and often armies of intelligent students in science universities who have much more time, resources and energy than an NGO.
