Grow Q&A: What Ever Happened to Thai Sticks? | High Times

I have only seen them once myself in the early 1990s, TBH I think the article (if not the comments) answered the “mystery”.

Although penalties for small posession and low level domestic dealing in SE Asia (with the exception of Indonesia) have been reduced drasticallly in the last decade, dealing across borders is clearly going to result in a lot more jail time even if it no longer incurs the death penalty (what happens at least in Malaysia is the offender is charged for amounts that are literally 10mg short of the “compulsory death penalty” levels)

Thailand is also a lot more developed than it was 20 years ago; about 30% of the components in a laptop computer purchased anywhere in the world are quite likely to be from there (hard drives, SSD, RAM chips) as well as other specialist components used in mobile phones and radio transmitters (I think NXP has a factory there as well as in the Philippines). For those willing to move from rural to urban areas there is more legit employment.

So the Thai sticks are most likely just getting smoked in Thailand – there plenty of middle class young people there (even the “bosses” generation is going to be around my age now and many will have had experience of the European music/hedonism scene during their University days) who will pay a few baht for them and this domestic use causes less risks to the growers.

So we’re all moving to Thailand right?

I’m not surprised they keep it for themselves tbh.

Remember Howard Marks said he smuggled a load if them once, he also mentioned something called Nepalese Te,ple Balls which he said was some of the finest hash in the world……never looked that up though, wonder how it’s described but apparent;y normally never seen outside Nepal.

    We’re moving to Nepal.

    Nepal Hash Guide

plenty of hash in NP (and IN, PK, AF are only next door) ; but given the current global situation you really can’t blame the natives for keeping the good stuff for themselves.

Getting it out of their country increasingly means dodging Da’esh (the Taliban seem to have chilled out with their anti-drugs attitudes somewhat and co-incidentally rarely end up in the news for the really bad stuff like beheading people etc) and the paranoia over “immigrants” in Europe doesn’t help – “Uncle Ahmed” isn’t going to risk his and his familys immigration visas bringing in anything other than legal supplies for the family busninesses.

That said in countries with slightly more enlightened attitudes to migration and medicinal cannabis I wouldn’t be surprised if some of this stuff did legitimately make its way over the borders for “research purposes” and any overstocks could be discreetly diverted…

If I had the chance I’d guarantee some would get here, directly from Nepal. After reading what it’s like it may be the only thing I’ve evr considered sticking up my arse apart from aMT when I was quite drunk and a docs lubed finger when I thought I was dying.
