When i was 13/14 i was really into skating, as were all of my friends in my local village, built our own ramps and used to set up a make shift skatepark outside the school.
After a few weeks of us doing nothing but skate at the week ends the police showed up as there had been lots of complaints about us making noise, after another week or so, we were told that we were no longer allowed to skate on the streets after 6pm (we all got in from school at 5:35)
so we asked the council if we could build a sk8park, amazingly they said yes and that we’d only have to raise 1/3 of the £20,000 they reconed it would cost to put a 1/4 pipe a grind rail up
so we raised all the money we needed and gave it over to the concil a few weeks down the line we, nothing had happend, we asked around an we were told that these things take time, although we still wern’t allowed to skate on the streets
so after a few months still no sign of anything and we had pretty much lost intrest in sk8ing as we had all now found weed & alcohol & mindless vandalisim & theft & all the other fun things to do in a small english town
a few years on now havin put through most of the windows of our old hangout and covered it in spray paint we saw some local concil members leavin there meeting, we asked them what had happened to the plans for a sk8park an they said that it had been an unfeasable project and also all the money had been spent on the new cricket pavillion
and we still weren’t allow to sk8 on the street
after a good few years of ravin, drug use an doing noting but sit infront of the pc/ps2 playin games or making tunes + time at work spent infront of the pc ive found myself in pretty bad shape & fitness, maybe if i had been allowed to sk8 i still would and would spend all my money on trucks, bearings and trips 2 peterborough’s sk8park instead of weed, mdma and trips to the nears free party
ah wel, the rich bstards who wudnt let me sk8 infront of their house knew what was best for me and the years of eggs being thrown at their house must have been beter than kids skating past
