  • Has any one been to Goa?

Only meet one couple from Kent that have been…

Sounds like a pretty mad place!

But sounds like most things, it had a better scene / vibe way back when I was to young.

    😥

Is it trance music all the time? I know there are lots of types but I think I could only take so much!

    :you_crazy

i went to goa a while ago

there’s lots of funny people around in goa but you don’t need to go all that way for a party

better (i think) to go to india for india and then if you get invited to a party, you’ll be feeling great

    make snse?

Lots of my mates have been to Goa twice in the last year, cheap to get there and cheap to stay. They love it out there, very chilled, nice people, edible food. Dont know what the dance scene is like cos they’re all coke heads and coke heads dont dance (well none i know, thats why i party with my Brother.)

    good advice

keep an eye on the international reports I am posting on the drugs section as well (I need to relay a few more from India as I have been concentrating on SE Asia at the moment)

I also have a lot of reliable sources of news from that area (I work in a place where 33% of the staff are Asian and many regularly travel to India and have family there)

there is a massive backlash in Asia against the rave scene because the whole continent is awash with ketamine and other drugs, India is seen as a source of this. The Chinese have also discovered raves and this is causing a bit of bother out there.

With the increasing urbanisation of some parts of India the local youths are also starting to take recreational drugs and go partying and starting up their local club/party scene.

India’s politicans and businessmen are very worried about losing the lucrative IT work they have wrestled away from the West if they are seen as a “security risk” and a “drug precursor country”. One main reason UK companies outsource is to get more reliable staff who work hard but don’t party hard and thus do not pull sickies/take long holidays/are knackered on mondays and make mistakes.

Although Goa has accepted the Western tourist trade its not without murmurings from the Indian themselves who also consider it a form of “neo-colonialisation”, so is outsourcing TBH but it is far more lucrative.

Add to this the ongoing world conflicts between Islam and other religions (India is a multicultural society where all religions are permitted) which is also making authorities and locals jittery

Although India is welcoming there are some very socially conservative elements in the country (not all are Muslim either!) and they are slowly gaining more power and acceptance (particularly amongst law enforcement authorities) as the global security situation deteriorates.

A lack of enforcement is not the same as activities being legal!

If you go out to any Asian country these days its better to just look like a “normal” person, not like a backpacker, raver or hippie (i.e do not openly wear street clothes which advertise Briitish club venues, groups like Spiral Tribe or any “drug-friendly” type stuff). Even so expect to be searched if you are young and look like you may take recreational substances (even if you don’t).

When you get there make sure you have trusted friends with local knowledge. This is very important. As anti-Western feeling increases there is a big danger of being stitched up (it happens loads in SE Asia).

If you are Asian best not to go as a single man – (my younger male relatives are now quizzed at every national border about their movements whenever they travel anywhere).thanks to world events we are now seen as terrorists, criminals and drug dealers world wide – thank you Jack Straw and Usama Bin Laden…

a recent guardian travel report claims that Indian cops shut down all the Goa raves (they were hitherto tolerating them) and that the Russian Mafia are trying to muscle in on the Western-owned bars (including violent incidents)

Hi went to Goa about three/four years ago, was pretty amazing, only went to one party on the beach as I wasnt really into partying much! It was lurrsssshh, but I wouldn’t go out there jus for the partieees, but I would definatly recommend going!

    Hi Paul M

I went to Goa just over a year ago and it was my third time there.

I love the people, the mix of cultures, and the diversity of experience on offer. hate to sound like one of those people “it was better back in the day”, but it really is a lot busier now than the first time I went.

the party scene has changed considerably. you used to be able to stumble across them a lot more, but with the influx of more package tourists, and more nutcases who don’t really understand the ethics of the free party scene, the vibe has changed a lot. The Israelis, to my knowledge, manage the scene out there and the music is, invariably, psy and goa trance (but that’s right up my street so i’m happy with that!)

You’re still likely to find a party out there but it’ll take a bit more effort – the days of the Anjuna beach rave after the market on Wednesdays are gone. As GL said, the police and authorities are clamping down and a more “respectable” (profitable) club culture is being promoted – last year I came across the first version of a mega club (replica Ibiza style) – and it was beyond crap (and the bacardi breezer promotion material everywhere made my stomach sink). I guess, on a negative note, this is what happens when you colonise paradise….

anyway, I’ve gone off on one – but Goa really is worth a visit – as much for the culture on offer as for the, now scarce, parties. its cheap to get to and cheap to stay there – i wouldn’t bother getting hotel accomodation as you’ll find much better and cheaper places when you get there – and the beaches are awesome!

if you’re thinking of going – send me a message and I’ll let you know what were my favorite places etc, maybe where to stay.

    peace
    vicky

    heads up all ravers…

the Indians have got the “jewel in the crown” from the West now…

acceptance by Dubya of their nuclear programme (the reality of this is that India is now “permitted” to have facilities on their territory which can easily be diverted to military use

but this is conditional on “assisting the US with cross-border terrorism problems”

and Mr Dubya sez “drrrgs -== trrrsm”

    :bounce_fl

Why’d this thread get bumped up from 2 years ago?

Anyway, might as well chip in. I was in goa last year. I didnt actually go to a party there (we arrived just after christmas/new year so missed things a bit) but i went to a few in other places around india. They were OKish… some had really nice venues but they felt really commercial. Plus its mainly just acid available outside of goa… and im not up for tripping my tits off in the middle of nowhere, in a foreign country thats a few thousand miles from my home. :you_crazy

I wouldnt reccomend going just for parties, but you’re bound to come across a few as you travel around, so why not.

My mum is there now, my father and hi best mate have just got back, my brother got married there as did my sister n her fella. My family usualy go at least twice a year but I’ve never been. My dad got a villa there.

It used be good in the early 90s but I’d sooner go Vietnamn or somewhere decent. Goa is like a posh Kos now.

whats goa like? white sandy beaches? hot all year round? good asian food? i heard its pretty damm cheap!
