  • Hi guys

I have never really had any problems getting to sleep but over the past few months I am really strugling with it, waking up in the night several times…lying for hours and just not been able to drop off..

All I want to be able to do is go to sleep

I am not talking about after drug use either this is just every day over the past few months

Tried not drinking any coffee after 1.00pm thinking it might be that even tried horlicks lol

anyway any help or advise would be grateful

    Thx

    Pred

at least 1hr b4 you goto bed do some excersize … at least enough to make you sweat a bit.

even if it’s loads of star jumps (alltho probably better to do something that might be benificial physicaly to you more – alltho star jumps might be really good i dunno)

then read for 30 mins or so b4 you got sleep … this hopefully will help somewhat to get you too sleep.

i wake up in the night alot and sometimes just lye there half asleep all night and it feels like i’ve not even slept when the alarm goes off on odd occasions .. normaly when my sleep patter is out of wack or when i’m stressed.

getting into a reguler sleep patten is quite important for good sleep (even if you’re bedding down at the same time your body works out over time that now is time to rest) and if your stressed about something excersize should go towards relaxing your body and mind as long as you give at least an hour to “wind down” from it.

reading will make your eyes tired.

    hope this helps

Ive had sleep issues for as long as i remember probs going back 11-12 years. I only get 5-6 hours of sleep on a good night. I eat before i got to bed, that helps alot i find. Also excersize is good as stated above. Try and put your mind at ease, dont do something like play and intense video game then try and go straight to bed, it wont happen.

Another thing you can do which is nice is buy a memory foam cover for your bed, there like £40 and they are so nice. Girls always compliment my bed aswell because its so comfty 😉

Goodluck sleeping man, it fucking sucks tho and i no how you feel. Was nights i just sit there clock watching or just trying to get comferable.

yeah a good materess is very important as well .. mines shit cos i have such a small room and need a sofa bed just to be able to have other stuff in my room and be able to move in it when i’m not sleeping. (ask poly/honeybear/parrotfish who all know how bad it is lol – mind you it’s a small 1 person bed and we were all sleeping in it at the same time so it was extra uncomphey then lol)

I can drop off on my mates bed with out even meaning to it’s soo comphey!

Well i take 4 co-codamol (for codene obv) when i cant sleep. And my gf takes painkillers for her foot for th forceeable future so i nick them every now and then…they knock me for six!!

I know there shit solutions but heck they work.

For sleep eau-naturelle count sheep, or daydream something outrageous etc

4 co-codamol is a fair bit of parasetamol dude … that’s like 2G … it’s getting close to the unhealthy levels of it .. I think 8G will kill you for sure … 4G is when it gets very very dangerous .. 2G is alot tho … I’d only ever take 3 co-codamol =1.5G para max at a time and i don’t really like even taking that many .. but i’m not a fan of parasetamol as it does absolutly fuck all and i have to take it regulaly mixed in with my pain killers and I’m sure it can’t be doing me any favors (even if it’s not fucking me up that bad .. it’s deffo not doing me any good)

I’m sure it’d be fine once in a blue moon .. but if you take it regularly to sleep at that lvl it’s no so good i would imagin.

try not to have an active mind before bed therefore no computer. If you’re stressed about something then write it down, it’ll help you forget about so you can deal with it in the morning, its not as if you can do anything about it when you’re lying in your bed anyway?

someone earlier mentioned exercise, if i play 5’s in the evening then i’m buzzing for ages afterwardd

I asked my fiancé about this as he has suffered with sleeping problems in the past he has passed on this advice:

“Do as DaftFader suggests, a routine will always help. I used to listen to chill out music to wind down then watch a favourite program on TV that I’d recorded or have on DVD. Make your routine very routine, down to the finer points like going to the loo , adjusting the pillows and duvet, then get into bed right up to the taking a glass of squash/juice to bed and having a ‘last sip’ say 10mins before you want to drift off to the land of nod!

“Routine is Key, don’t have stimulants like caffeine or smoke before trying to sleep, or even go on a computer as these will keep the mind alert.

“If you wake during the night try repeating the last 20mins of your routine, this will help.

“Lastly if you suffer for a long period of time with this, go see a doctor, a simple herb remedy may be suggested and also such things as anxiety and insomnia can be ruled in/out.

“just as an post script, try digging your fingernails into an orange, this releases the essential oils (they look like small quick squirts) which is known for its abilities to aid sleep, inhale, smell to get well!!!”

Good luck, let us know how you get on.

mby do alot of excersize late afternoon then, as I know what you mean about excersize getting you buzzing for a while after … that’s why i said do a little bit at least over 1 hour b4 bed. But doing alot earlyer on in the day might help more .. you’ll have to find out what works best for you.

agreed. I wasnt having a go, different things work for different people.

oh of course i dont take that many regularly……..just when i really need sleep and yeah ur right about the paracetamol dosage…..i should just buy codene tablets instead, but the gf gets co-codamol on prescription so u get shit loads more than over the counter

This is in the drugs forum. 5-HTP and Valerian root are good healthy sleep aids. I used to take a combo of them for sleep.

it would be absoloutley great if we never had to sleep. or if we only had to sleep once a month instead of every night and just have a marathon dream sleep instead.

think of all the hours we miss out on each evening.

Regular exercise and a proper diet, cut out caffeine. Keeps me pretty well rested.
Drugs are all well and good for the odd night or two, but chronic sleep loss can’t be solved through drug use without you eventually not being able to sleep without them.

I disagree, research 5-HTP and Valerian.
