  • hi all need some help/advice/opinion quite rapid, basically my G/F has been really ill for 2 days, she went to doctors thismorning and he said she had food poisening and gave her some medication but now it seems to be getting worse so i phoned NHS direct and they recomended to go to AandE they said it was my G/F’s choice but thats what they recomend. Now she’s doing the whole “im fine” thing and refuses to let me take her to A+E and i’m worried as f..k.She’s back in bed i dont know what to do and i dont know why im asking here she’s so stubarn driving me mad with worry.i know you aint doctors or qualified to give medical advice but i need an un biased opinion and my mates are just as useless as me,if i need to i will carry her there kicking and screaming.

the reason i doubt the nhs thing is they didnt say we HAD to go it was just advised, sorry this is doin me in

      Staff

make sure she have plenty of fluid..

If she is not better tomorrow, dont ask her to go..Tell her to:you_smart

If she will not do it for her own sake, ask her to do it for you..

the NHS direct staff have to advise youto see a doc if they can’t positively diagnose something, to cover their backs

what is wrong with her?… ‘relly sick’ could mean anything

It’s not nice when someone you care for is really ill. I think you get more scared than they do.

If it is food poisoning then it can effect someone like this and she could feel rough for a while. On the other hand it would be nice to get her checked out for peace of mind. If she is showing no signs of getting better in the morning then you I would try and get her to see a different doctor or get a doctor to do a house visit. If she is still feeling bad she may even want to go over to A&E anyway.

I would try not to worry for the mean time though. I know that’s easier said than done.

cheers guys you can tell im not the person you want around in a crisis, all sorts were going through my head and i couldn’t think straight and just didn’t know what to do.”really sick” meant she hasn’t been able to keep anything down, constantly nausias and throwing up pretty much contantly. This lead to de-hydration,a constant bad headache and dizziness.
Shortly after i posted earlier she gave in so i took her to A+E.They gave her an injection to temporarly stop the nausia and had her on an I.V drip once the first bag was done she had a urine test she still wasn’t re-hydrated enough so they gave her another bag, done a few tests(including a pregnancy one?)give her antibiotics and sent us on our way.The doctor just said it was a “bad bug” and that they had replaced the liquids lost and hopefully after a few days she should be able to hold down liquids and move onto soup, but if not we’ve got to go back.Ah releif she has colour back and hasn’t thrown up for 4 hours :bounce_g: :horay:
Cheers for the help and reasurance guy’s did try to make sense but didnt leave you much to go by raaa raaa raaa

Hey, thats good to hear, Its always worth getting things checked out if your worried,
And its good to hear she relented and went,

The injection usually works well and the antibiotics usually kick in quite quicky, so hopefully be feeling mush better by this afternoon,

Sounds like a few days under a blanket, on the sofa in front of DVD’s is in order

cheers tankgirl!Total releif she gave in,one minute she was stroppily telling me hospital was not an option, the next she was stroppily telling me to get her there sharpish!Bless
I could do with sofa and blanket meself at the moment i got work in 20minutes 😥

      We’re good at being stroppy ! :laugh_at:

hope work are sympathetic and you have an easy day,

Good to hear she is on the mend mate. Hope work wasn’t too much hassle.

glad to hear she is recovering..

I spoke to a work colleague who is a registered nurse and she said these symptoms are common with what is called a norovirus (winter vomiting bug) which is common around these times.

its not life threatening but In some cases people can get admitted to A&E due to dehydration so the NHS direct were doing the right thing by advising this…

The pregnancy test is often a routine precaution in the Emergency Department as many girls are not initially aware they are pregnant and if they are they cannot have certain drugs for safety reasons.

BTW look after yourself as well as you do not want to get this nasty virus!

cheers once again for all the advice,by saterday she was more or less back to normal, and when i turned up for work they took one look at me and told me to go back home and covered me,so it all worked out allright :bounce_g: :bounce_g:
