  • Saw a guy rocking this a few nights ago. The picture quality is OK, but you get the idea. This mask is amazing.

I’ve been searching Google Images, eBay, Amazon, costume sites, Pinterest, and more over the last couple hours trying to find this. Nothing comes close to how cool this mask is, even the “Donnie Darko” costumes.

Any ideas on where I could find this? Is it possibly custom made? Have you seen a mask like this before?

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

possibly custom made, originally a film / tv / theatre prop?

it looks like part of an outfit that would have been used in something like a childrens TV show or similar performance where an actor would have been required to dress up as a giant anthromorphised rabbit (or maybe a hare which you might refer to as a jackrabbit). It looks like whoever made it has some knowledge of what these animals look like in real life, rather than following a cartoon character design.

in recent years this sort of stuff is increasingly done on computer graphics and a lot of TV and film studios have closed down ; when that happens a lot of stuff is sold off very cheaply or even given away to former employees/contractors, especially if its taking up room and the whole building is to be knocked down or reused for something like a call centre.

in the UK and Europe it is possible to obtain at fancy dress/costume places a horse head mask (though not as realistic) and a few years ago it was popular to wear them at some EDM events (probably as a reference to taking the drug ketamine, as some supplies were originally intended for horses and diverted from vets).

    Thats awesome.

I’d almost put money on it being an old theatrical/TV mask (possibly the March Hare character from Alice in Wonderland, though tbf it’s pretty fucking scary for that). Theatres usually have all sorts of random props and costumes squirrelled away in various cupboards and attics. You might not find a rabbit head, but if you make friends with your local theatre and say ‘have you got any freaky costumes/masks that I could take off your hands for a contribution’ you might end up with something equally weird.
