  • Let me say at the outset I’m no lawyer and I haven’t even seen the following book in the flesh (in the paper ?) I hope nobody here will need it but I thought it looked interesting, and could be really useful if you ever need to make a complaint about the police and take it through the procedures. Probably not one for the legal beginner but I should think that if you’ve got a bit of sense you could save yourself a lot of money and hassle.

Police Misconduct: legal remedies, by the Legal Action Group – £37 quid, but currently on offer at £30. Which might sound expensive until you see the price of most legal textbooks !

I have a low opinion of solicitors cos 99.99% of them are a bunch of lazy, selfish, self serving lags who don’t give a stuff about your case as long as they can line their pockets. In my experience of the non-criminal side, if solicitors were exposed to the commercial realities of providing customer service instead of having a nice cosy closed shop most of them would go bust inside a year.

I’m currently doing an employment tribunal claim myself and I’ll be using another book from this publisher – I’ll let you know what I think of it when I get to the point of using it ! Hope this one might be of interest to someone though, even if only so you can tell your sol he’s talking bollocks – and if you buy it, do let me know too what it’s like 🙂

Disclaimers: I am not a lawyer, I haven’t even read it never mind used it, this advice is worth less than what you paid me for it, I have no financial connection, you may still need to bung a barrister a couple of grand if it goes to court, this book could possibly be so inaccurate that it might give an unqualified user an automatic passport to chokey, may contain fnord, I am not a number I am a temporary autonomous zone, always pay some greedy bastard for qualified legal advice to preserve your rights so at least it’ll be his fault not that that will make any difference, objects on acid could be closer than they appear, most police are actually sterling chaps who would give you the shirt off their backs, the helmet off their heads and the number off their shoulder, etc etc.

    Have fun 😉

    Nick
