When I read it, I immediately think that they’re crazy people, I think the word itself has a negative connotation. I wonder if there is a better term for it, like ‘circumstantial conclusion’

Yep, that’s exactly what I get from the term. An explanation for an event that not only has zero actual physical evidence for it, the act that is considered fake, never has any actual reason to be done by god knows what (aliens, terrorists, lesbians, moon landings in movie studios, even though a fucking rocket was watched by millions blast off the planet…) rather than just accepting what seems blatantly the facts.
