  • From what I’ve gathered he got the computer from work as a sort of ‘xmas’ bonus,
its some thing to do with the opperating system but they moved offices and lost the disc they need….. that may make sense to you – as I just dont get it

but any help out there deffo welcom!

Hmm – think putting the drive in a linux machine would allow file recovery if the disk still runs but I am not 100% sure.

Macs must have some kind of recovery tool for them and most of the old operating systems must be available somewhere if he hasnt got one

    good luck :flowers:

Not sure if this will be any help!

Recovering a deleted user account or user’s files from the same computer

If you just want to recover certain files from a deleted user, skip to step 5. If you want to resurrect everything from a deleted user account, choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
    Click Accounts.
Create a new administrator account (select the “Allow user to administer this computer” checkbox). You can use the same short name as the former user’s account if you wish—this account will essentially replace the former one.

Note: If you don’t want this account to have long-term administrator access, deselect the “Allow user to administer this computer” checkbox after completing the rest of these steps.

Log out of your account, then log in as the new user account.
Go to /Users/Deleted Users, then double-click the deleted_user.dmg file (where deleted_user is the name of the deleted account) to mount the disk image on the desktop.

Note: If the Home folder was protected by FileVault, you’ll need to enter the former user account’s password to proceed. In general, make it a point to turn off FileVault before deleting a user to avoid this situation.

If you only want certain items, drag those files onto your desktop to copy them. If you want to resurrect the deleted account, copy everything from the disk image to the same locations in your (new user’s) Home folder.
You do not need to repair permissions with Disk Utility, but of course you can if you wish.

    Thanks guys!

I’m at work tonight so will let him know to check out your words of wisdom in the A.M

dont use the word hija***ng its not pc:wink:
    edit
    i/tunes hijac*ed my albums

Yeah, I had the same problem. I deleted I-tunes and then got winamp.

Winamp is wicked. I have had no promblems with this.
    http://www.winamp.com/

Ive been using i-Tunes v3 for a few years now on a pc with no probs at all.Only downside is I-tunes wont let you copy tunes straight from your i-pod so i use copy pod for that.
v3 seems far less bloated and system hungry than media player but maybe later versions got steadily more bloated with the advent of video capabilitys ect

As far as losing all your music for you goes,I have found you need to pay attention to your
MP3 tags else you wind up with a string of files called track 1 ect, also if its a compilation album you need to tick the part of a compilation box to keep the tracks together as an album, else it will sort them into individual artists for you.
