  • Anyone got any experience of this? Is it expensive? Advantages/disadvantages? Where do you park it? Cost much to run? Hard to fit out? Good mechanical skills needed? Etc

    Any advice greatly received.

Depending on when you got your driving license, this limits the size of vehicle you can legally drive. Fuel costs and lack of park up places are starting to impact on those who just do it for fun/hedonism/”escaping the system”.

Those who are making a success of it are running some sort of (legal!) business which requires being on the move. Even then its still no easier than being settled. More info about vehicles can be found here

I’ve noticed fuckloads of younger people sign up, realise how hard it is (especially if they need the HGV license for the larger vehicles) and then walk away from the forum and are never seen again, or they ignore the bad news, try it and then end up selling the vehicle at a loss.

Unless you’ve got some skill which is valuable to a rural community which can pay for your fuel and really enjoy being outdoors I’d go careful as you can find yourself even more isolated than in a town. TBH lots of folk I knew who “lived in vans” only did so during the summer/festival season, but its becoming way harder to support a medium size vehicle and have a flat for winter due to peak oil etc..

    Bugger. Cheers gl
