  • susprised this hasn’t been discussed more (or are Europes young people too distracted by cybersex and football to notice this?)

It is an unusual move for a EU nation; especially one aspiring to be modern and democratic (and one of the newest nations to elect a female leader); although I can understand why this decision was made in the light of recent events in Russia and Ukraine to someone of my generation its like we have just gone 30 years back in time; and what can happen in one small EU nation can happen quickly in others.

The Latvian government must paranoid of another iron curtain being put up around them, although I can’t see it happening myself, I still think this as you say should be discussed more.

it never quite disappeared; thats why Umeks radio show is called “Behind The Iron Curtain”. He has recently started making fake “new Soviet style” adverts in his shows which are absolutely hilarious (which reminds me I must put the new one on VFR this week)…

But Umek is Slovenian, they’re famous for walking out of communism, they started the collapse of Yugoslavia and the USSR (in the later years of cause), he’s gonna have a cheeky stab at them for there bullshit ideology’s.

thats exactly what he does (its also good as I’ve often found EDM DJ’s to come across as too serious about everything). If my playout hasn’t gone tits up this shows should be on VFR at 21:00 UK / 22:00 CET with another Slovenian DJ Alexsandre Banera before that at 20:00 UK / 21:00 CET with IDGAX (I don’t give a X).

TBH I’m impressed VFR Europe gets listeners from Eastern Europe including RU and UA – I’ve got shows from these countries; I’ve got a lot of respect for the DJ’s still making and sharing their podcasts as in times like this attitudes harden against such things like hedonism and multiculturalism which dance music is all about (its shocking to see how bad Russia has got over the years and I don’t think Mr Putin is wholly to blame as he was there 10 years ago; a lot of it is the fallout from the economic crisis). Even if its a handful of people listening in (and similarly with partyvibe Radio) it is one act of defiance we can all still get away with as the communications ministry in any country cannot shut down the whole internet as its vital for business; and the way it works is my radio stream gets mixed up with financial transactions and all sorts and doesn’t use a lot of bandwidth so stays “under the radar”.
