  • Hi all i was wondering if anyone can help! I have a 94 merc 308d 2300cc the 4 cyl model. My oil pressure light came on so i took it off the road gave it an oil and filter change and fitted a new pressure switch. The light still comes on, it flickers on idle but if you rev it it stays bright. so i’m thinking maybe the oil pump has worn out? can anyone tell me where its located, does it bolt onto the filter housing where the oil cooler pipes go or will i have to take the sump off? any advice greatly appreciated

Maybe check the electrical connections for the detector for a loose connection first? could be old wiring degrading..

i followed the wire back as far as i could when i changed the switch, the overall condition of the wires is pretty good.

ill tell you exactly what the problem is, could be wrong tho, my friend used to have a volvo, and i own a mini(all pretty simple), but the volvo has all these electric chips, and when he changed his he had to get his chip reset down at the garage, then it would go off

    hope this helps chick 😉

Must say i didn’t thimk of that. I dont think my old bus has anything that advanced on it but its still worth a look. ty

got a mate with a 308d, she had a similar thing, i think.

Have u tried changin the oil filter, i think its a bit of a bugger to get off, so it tends not to get done.

If the filter is full of shit, it might effect the pressure at low revs…

I think that was the story, it was pretty definately an oil pressure light thing, as i remember.

Its a bit late for phoning her now, if u PM me 2moro, i’ll give her a bell 4 u, to check.

Shit, i’ve jus reread ur post, and u’ve done the obvious…

I can still ask her 2moro, on the off chance it might help.

Failing anything else you could be cheeky and find somewhere via this site that has the part and ask what the easiest way to replace it is :groucho:

Thats just what i need, but no luck. the haynes website says they are considering producing one, and a genuine merc one costs more than a new oil pump. I just found out that biggest supplier of secondhand merc parts in the country is based just down the road but when i rang them they were really unhelpfull and just fobbed me off. I noticed sj has a motors section so i might break my vow and post on there. Just this once honest.:crazy_diz
