Project MKUltra — sometimes referred to as the CIA’s mind control program — was the code name given to an illegal program of experiments on human subjects, designed and undertaken by the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Experiments on humans were intended to identify and develop drugs and procedures to be used in interrogations and torture, in order to weaken the individual to force confessions through mind control.

Organized through the Scientific Intelligence Division of the CIA, the project coordinated with the Special Operations Division of the U.S. Army’s Chemical Corps. The program began in the early 1950s, was officially sanctioned in 1953, was reduced in scope in 1964, further curtailed in 1967 and officially halted in 1973. The program engaged in many illegal activities; in particular it used unwitting U.S. and Canadian citizens as its test subjects, which led to controversy regarding its legitimacy. MKUltra used numerous methodologies to manipulate people’s mental states and alter brain functions, including the surreptitious administration of drugs (especially LSD) and other chemicals, hypnosis, sensory deprivation, isolation, verbal and sexual abuse, as well as various forms of torture.

Early CIA efforts focused on LSD, which later came to dominate many of MKUltra’s programs. Technical Services Staff officials understood that LSD distorted a person’s sense of reality, and they felt compelled to learn whether it could alter someone’s basic loyalties. The CIA wanted to know if they could make Russian spies defect against their will and whether the Russians could do the same to their own operatives.

Once Project MKUltra officially got underway in April, 1953, experiments included administering LSD to mental patients, prisoners, drug addicts and prostitutes, “people who could not fight back,” as one agency officer put it. In one case LSD was administered to a mental patient in Kentucky for 174 days. LSD was also administered to CIA employees, military personnel, doctors, other government agents, and members of the general public in order to study their reactions. LSD and other drugs were usually administered without the subject’s knowledge or informed consent, a violation of the Nuremberg Code that the U.S. agreed to follow after World War II. The aim of this was to find drugs which would irresistibly bring out deep confessions or wipe a subject’s mind clean and program him or her as “a robot agent.”

In Operation Midnight Climax, the CIA set up several brothels in San Francisco, California to obtain a selection of men who would be too embarrassed to talk about the events. The men were dosed with LSD, the brothels were equipped with one-way mirrors, and the sessions were filmed for later viewing and study. In other experiments where people were given LSD without their knowledge, they were interrogated under bright lights with doctors in the background taking notes. The subjects were told that their “trips” would be extended indefinitely if they refused to reveal their secrets. The people being interrogated this way were CIA employees, U.S. military personnel, and agents suspected of working for the other side in the Cold War. Long-term debilitation and several deaths resulted from this.[…]Heroin addicts were bribed into taking LSD with offers of more heroin.[…]Some subjects’ participation was consensual, and in these cases they appeared to be singled out for even more extreme experiments. In one case, seven volunteers in Kentucky were given LSD for 77 consecutive days.

    USA! USA! USA!
Feel free to add in any other shady things your government has pulled off!

Nice shhare bud, much is known about MKultra now but it was still a shocking thing for them to do.

I was hoping people would share things that their gov’t hid from them. MKUltra seemed like a good starting point. Although everyone knows what us americans have done.

there are some english ones I’ll grab for ypu npw

I knew you’d have some info in that brain of yours.. You seem to know quite a bit about these things. And you love to make Americans look bad.

worth bearing in mind Europe is geographically much closer to the Soviet Union/Russia – so a lot of the Cold War paranoia that fuelled the mindset behind these experiments had evaporated by the 1960s.

If anything by the 1970s/1980s the European and Soviet governments were trying to hide the fact that most of the brightest and best brains across the continent were full of the drugs the Americans wanted to prohibit; and this was still occuring with some collusion within our “socialist” health systems..

In the UK during 1970s there were some unpleasant incidents of political activists who also took recreational drugs being sectioned to psychiatric hospital and being pumped full of even worse drugs to “cure” them of the addiction (to the point some committed suicide) but it wasn’t any government “conspiracy” as such; more to do with insufficient funding and oversight of the healthcare facilities. An uncle of mine was one of the main chaps who stopped this happening in London and was also the first British Asian to reach a management grade in that part of the NHS.

In Acid Dreams (a book) the authors claim that the CIA came up with LSD that didn’t breakdown in the presences of chlorine and therefore could be put into the water supply :tripping-out:

the bit where they find radio communication becomes impossible always makes me think of GSM phones used as partylines for outdoor raves :laugh_at:

they should make it a UN rule everyone in the military must have a good strong dose of these psychedelics every week; perhaps handed out by the padre / imam / rabbi that most military units have at the usual prayer times (when they are not doing important stuff like controlling vehicles, ships or aircraft) and they could do that for all adult civillians too at weekends.

Folk would still join the Army, Air Force or Navy or go to religious services because they could have fun there [and these services are useful to deal with environmental incidents] but there would be no more war or religious extremism; there would be world peace but it might not be quiet; I expect instead of having wars folk would be trying to make the biggest soundsystems.

Although there would be less bombs it would probably end up with the Middle East / South Asian countries all trying to be the best at cricket, football (soccer) and golf; and everyones windows are constantly stove in by stray balls – so everyone would have to wear military style helmets or reinforced turbans and there would be shouts of “FORE! ALLAH-U-AKHBAR!”.

Also everyone that ever want’s to be in government should take.

And then admit to it unlike now.
