  • in the 90s every Tuesday/Wednesday all the “loved up MDMA raver couples” in my area would end up kicking off at one another on the comedown; I’d often hear on my scanner either the neighbours (because of the noise they were making throwing stuff about) or one of the partners calling nines and the old bill being sent round to their houses!

(they were often very sheepish and awkward around me if I met them at a rave the next weekend as they knew I’d be aware exactly what had happened :laugh_at:)

On a serious note this is another reason why MDMA remains on prohibition. Many of these couples lived in part social funded housing and they’d end up with doors and windows kicked through (often the offender would fix up the damage themselves but it was still visible) – at least they very rarely physically attacked each other, but to neighbours these incidents would genuinely be alarming; as there were regularly much worse DV incidents across Thames Valley in that era amongst older middle class people. (Incidentally listening to the cops on a radio scanner actually taught me more respect for them and some sympathy for what they have to deal with in their work…)

I have also spoken to a lot of profesional young women in their late 20s/30s who work as nurses and carers and loads of them have had bad experiences with former boyfriends who were party drug users and became controlling and paranoid.

Another risk to “young party couples” which can be extremely traumatic even if they genuinely devoted and able to avoid comedown rows is forgetting to use their contraception.

This can of course lead to a young woman falling pregnant, and not being aware of this in the early stages.

Sadly it has led to couples having to arrange a termination, or worse wanting to keep the baby but the young woman miscarries due to reduced physical health.

All party/recreational drugs cross the placenta.

If you are in a long term relationship and think you might be expecting to be a parent then both of you should immediately arrange to visit your health services family planning and stay clear of any controlled drugs or NPS (Dad will also need to be in good mental and physical health once the babies are born!)

This is why a lot of former regular posters on here are not around (as they have become parents and don’t have as much spare time).

One chap I know ended up had to take down his music studio (this happens quite often to DJs and musicians).

At least him and his wife owned their house so I did suggest converting the roofspace for the childrens rooms (which would be suitable for his son and daughter right up to the end of high school years) but this isn’t cheap and needs Building Control authorisation (although where he lived would have also given the kids a good view of the sea)

I would also have had to get the train to Lowestoft and explain to his wife I was not simply suggesting the kids were hoist up in a basket on a pulley into the roofspace like a catch of halibut and cod at the fish docks :laugh_at:

Same with alcohol or having barry white on……
