  • Once again we had good little shindig in the woods, no trouble from old bill, they didnt even turn up. Plenty of happy faces and phat tunes, i cant wait to do another one!
Around 100 people turned up, there was no party line just word of mouth and a few hints on facebook, Music was off by 10am, We cleared up all the rubbish and left on our own accord!raaa

I was curious about why you do them on Fridays rather than Saturdays but to be fair it makes sense as it limits the event to genuine locals and keeps the numbers down

Fair play for picking a sensible finish time as well, TBH that was what brought things on top in ’07 as people were really stubborn about dragging the party out till Sunday afternoon and afterwards everyone was too fucked to clear up properly..

Before I moved here I used to work very closely with people from Forestry and they never saw raves as a problem until about 2006/07 when loads of folk from London and SE England who can afford petrol for 200 mile round trips (and who have already rinsed their areas) decided to rinse everywhere and there was parties with thousands of people what didn’t give a flying fuck about their surroundings..

Yeh we do like our friday night shindigs! Only locals and not too many of them! Plus you can go out on saturday to bigger parties out on the ridgeway or in london.
We are bringin the party scene back in Norfolk tho and im loving it 🙂

I’ve partied in both London/SE England and EA and at its best the EA parties were in fact much friendlier, though not unlike the parties in SE England about 10 years ago.

Bigger isn’t necessarily better…. too many people are chasing after having the biggest rig(s) and the largest crowd but that is where you get more shit with people trying to play “gangsta/hard man”, locals getting pissed off and the OB clamping down..

I feel much safer in Norfolk than any other county despite the shit that has gone on lately. Ive seen more muggings and violent behavior in other counties than here. Apart from that i know everyone from these ways so im much less likely to come into contact with those kind of people.

This summer the parties will come back to this end of the country anyway. Old bill are more hot on it to the west than they are in the east these days.
For example there was a riot on the ridgeway this weekend and there were 2 parties in norfolk that didnt get shut down…

wahay! a happy report from norfolk!

    fair play to ya!

i dont think parties wil be coming back your ways though!:weee:

I do, ive spoken to other rigs and they want to come out this way again coz its gettin to hot where they are. Its only a matter of time, and we have had lots of parties out this way in the past year, the 2 years before that yeh it was pretty much dead. But now there are lots of new rigs out and it wont be long till we are back in full swing 🙂

well i wish you all the best matey, i look forward to reading more happy reports from norfolk on monday mornings!

in EA (not just Norfolk) its a question of geography, common sense and community integration. Even (and somewhat ironically) during the full on zero tolerance I managed to get to at least 3 decent parties in Suffolk – which were virtually left alone by cops.

However I was specificially requested by the organisers and their friends not to discuss them on here as the cops basically say “if you advertise these things online they are no longer a private party and we will shut them down for your own good as folk from London/SE England will overrun you, trash the area and leave you in the shit”. As this has happened even in licensed premises in my town they do have a point to be fair.

EA is a big area but flatter than most and with more high value agricultural land, now in a economic depresssion like the rest of the country although agriculture is doing a bit better, so any perceived damage to this is viewed as real crime, not just mischief.

The overall consensus here seems to be that as long as private property rights are respected and there isn’t real environmental damage, parties aren’t big crime. I’ve heard this at first hand from older people (age 40/50+) who are involved in the rural economy too.

Many would in fact rent out a field for a event and aren’t against hall parties or even well run things in areas like thetford and Rendlesham (and some of the older folk were in fact doing such things 20 years ago) but just don’t want excessive numbers or rubbish/shit left behind, which is fair enough.

there is also a history in the more middle class areas of my generation and those just below and their families suffering from addiction/health problems, something which is only now being addressed. Communities here are close knit with strong family values (very similar to British Asians elsewhere in the UK) many are linked to faith groups and its a small world where bad news travels fast so some folk are slightly less “open minded” about drugs but at the same time if use isn’t problematic they tend to overlook it.

Everyone is starting to be a bit more pragmatic again but I’d suggest going carefully. If this area gets rinsed like in 2003-2005 during “better times” the feds will clamp down and a lot of folk with power (cops/politicians) are my age or even younger (my MP is 8 years my junior!!) and lived through the rave/drugs/Britpop era and aren’t as out of touch as they were decades ago – so they know this scenes Achilles heels.

However, if I really thought EA was a place full of narrow minded intolerant bumpkins I would not have chosen to live here 5 years ago… it is a good place and tolerant, just everyone has to work together..
