  • it’s been about a year since i was truely involved in putting on an outdoor event and i had an ace time this weekend but in my old age i feel i’m becoming a bit bitter and twisted. when the hat went round we got a grand total of sixty quid, i’m not realy fucked about the money, the cost of the hire van, the money, time and effort invested in the rigs are things we do because we love it.

what upsets me however is the response of people when asking for donations. people are quite happy to pay a fortune to petrochemical companies to fuel their journey to the event, more money to shifty gangsters at the top of the drugs industry and large sums of cash to buy funky clothes shipped for thousands of miles across the world.

so next time someone comes round asking for a few quid towards the cost of a party please don’t just look at him and say “i haven’t got any cash” or heres 23p. have a little more respect, look around you at what has been created and if you realy can’t give money, give the person a hug and say “thank you”.

    sorry, rant over…..:horay:

    here here

i think a hug off a sodden raver in the morning is the last thing a organizer wud want TBH
but yeah bosh a few quid in an say thnx

I think people vastly underestimate the risk and effort involved in putting on free parties.

the stakes are being raised higher; people are getting rigs and vehicles seized more often; they can’t use work vehicles as cops notify employers; considering it costs a few hundred quid just to learn to drive and get on the road (never mind the actual cost of vehicles) its a lot to put at risk (incidentally there is a new law whereby people can be disqualified from driving just for using their car in “crime” (such as putting on a rave) even if they have totally followed traffic laws!)

Landowners are even trying to sue people in the civil courts for the cost of clearing up after raves…

So why can’t people spare a few quid to help the crews out?

I think the worst we ever had was £42 from about 500 people. One person had put in a fiver too.

    thats rubbish

now i understand why the organisers like to give me the hat to take round; i managed to get that out of a smaller crowd – mind you i do give peeps a hard time when they say they are too skint – its not my party so i am not shy to point out the costs to them. funny how its easier when you’re are not the organiser:smile:

if you’ve put a rave on an had a wicked time and suns cumin up an u think its time to pass the hat round,
its a propper downer when everyone you’ve gone out of your way to put a party on for cums up with sum shitty excuse for why they cant give you the’re last few quid – this is another reason organisers like sum else to do it, that an if old bill turn up u dnt wanna be seen takin money

God, I’m surprised at the piddling little amounts you’re collecting at parties. What people are not getting into their heads is that the less money you guys collect… the less likely that crew is to do another party – at the end of the day someone has to pay the price and for a lot of young crews the financial burden is just too much.

Surely if you were going to a club you’d make sure you had the entrance fee or you’d not get in. If you’re going to a rave, it makes sense to keep a similar amount for the donation. Seems to me it’s just good rave etiquette. (I’ve never sent a bucket away without putting in at least £5, personally.) But if the problem is as big as you guys say, obviously a lot of people don’t see it that way.

The sad thing is, if everyone gave their £3-£4, then the crews could afford to put on a better party the next time – better lighting, better sound, better everything!

    PLUR

Totally agree – If i was gonna do a party i would expect every1 to donate as i always dig deep for the organisers!

the last time we did a party we asked for money as people bounced in that way i also did my worrit bit about too many chavs, and my 1st aid lecture (everyone thought i was a crazy bird until someone collapsed..and guess what they knew which van to come to!), that way we managed to stay reasonably straight and persuasive till 1 am then we gave up.

We made enough to cover our expenses, and to pay the very nice farmer

I’m always well to happy to contribute to the donation!! I luv free parties and have no probs with payin my fare share towards fuel. If rig owners etc are up for puttin parties on then people who r happy to attend them should b more than happy to add contributions. For fuck sake people go out to clubs and pay high door taxes but dont want to pay a few quid for a free party, these people shouldnt b at free parties in my eyes.
