  • Hi All

I have a rather close friend named Jane who lives in my homecounty and she’s been regularly taking legal highs to help her cope with daily life and to get away from her anxiety, binge eating and depression. Although she ain’t really interested in recovering and stopping the legal highs. But she will be seeing her pdoc in a few weeks and is worried she may slip up or let out that she takes these substances and although she’s over 18 (well 26 to precise) she doesn’t want her parents ever finding out. When she takes these substances, she does it when shes out of the house/round her friends or when her parents are sleeping and she’s upstairs on her laptop. Can you help me?

I am really worried about her, especially as one of the ingredients isclass B drug and doctors have a legal obligation to report this.

Also what do I do if she takes too much and is so out of it but wont go to hospital?
Can you advise me on what to say to her?

P.s she also just started smoking e-cigs and gets drunk at weekends.

Hi. Can yo tell me the compounds she uses please? Also, she is under no obligation to tell them and believe me, I know for a FACT that psychiatrists are under no obligation to report drug use.. Unless she’s sectioned under the mental health act they can’t test her for drug se nd so can’t prove drug use and even if they did she is still an adult and her parents WILL NOT be informed.

I think its just gogaine and synthagaine, but thanks for letting me know

Arg I’m the branded chemicals pirate.

you, I mean ‘she’ sounds a lot like myself 2 years ago.

this is indeed true although the doctors do or did report anonymised data of controlled drug / NPS use to the NTA/Public Health England if anyone requires treatment. Drug testing is comparatively rare although doctors do often take blood and urine samples to check for other serious and life-threatening health conditions (which can also be associated with/worsened by eating disorders). Any data from her psychatric unit is likely to just be a spreadsheet of numbers of users/medical conditions in a region (which can be several hundred square kilometres or more) making it impossible to individual identify the users from this data.

Hi, exectly right GL. Drug testing is carried out in psychiatric facilitioes but thisis not just random testing, people are screened when there is eason to suspect they are on or have recently used drugs. The result of the urine test will effect how you are treated in hospital and lead to some restrictions on your movememnts etc but beyond that, nothing. Of course these things are recorded but as said the data is anonymized and no-one would ever link your friend to that test.

Yeppers remember having to piss in a cup in the ER one time, kept telling them I couldn’t go cause I was paranoid about the results, they kept sending me back to the restroom until I produced a sample but its not like those results show up with your name for people outside the hospital.
