  • There is so much creativity which can be linked to music and dance, everything from expressing yourself to creating the music that people will love to dance to.

There is also a personalized touch to the outfits you wear in many cases, i’m wondering if anyone here designs and makes their own outfits? Everything from pants up.

I’ve seen some really amazing designs and not by the factories that make overpriced rave gear. It seems to me that the best thing to do is to make your own stuff, whether its from scratch or by altering old clothes. It makes the stuff you wear all that much more special and “just right”.

I’m working on a pattern for the flare / phat pants, (have you noticed that no one ever publishes stencils of the clothes they make?) and hopefully once that figures out, will be able to share it with people. Anyone else have any ideas?

i’ve made a few flares before, and altered a couple of trousers, but i cant be arsed any more. i can see what you’re saying about creativity, but to me my clothes are more about comfort and toughness. my way of personalising is not throwing shit out so i make my mark on the clothes. i like it when people make the effort, it does help make the rave feel more special, but personally i want something i can dance in for fucking ages and not get pissed off with. if i wear shit thats too baggy or has stuff hangin off it or whatever, then by six in the morn, those things are getting on my tits.

if you want a pattern (or “stencil”) for trousers, the main difficult bit is the crutch. if i were you i’d just get a shit pair of trousers, unpick the stitching, and voila! you have your oiutline. then you just need to lengthen the legs and widen them. using paper first saves destroying good material.

the thing that put me off my own clothes was that getting shop-quality fabric is impossible. proper good denim? i cant find it. i just stick to ethically made comfy shit i like the look of.

my friend Liw, in Bristol, promised to make me some pink underpants almost a year ago 🙂

in fact that’s the only reason i talked to her in the first place 😉

but where are those pink pants now?

    Nowhere in sight 😡

cos she’s a lazy good for nothing ‘fashion designer’ who thinks she has more important things to do than make me some pink pants :p

the only clothes i ever (helped) to make were a pair of giant underpants… they now have 2 places in the Guiness book of world records.. one as the “largest pants in the world ever” and second in the ’50 strangest records ever”

a couple of girls I know make their own clothes and are very good at it but this tends to happen more for psy-trance parties etc.

I never bother with anything flash for raving, as I often go to warehouse parties where there is bare squatjuice and other filth everywhere or muddy fields.

I did once get someone think I was a cyberkid for wearing some hi-vis gear but I’d only worn it as I had cycled to that particular rave and the route took me through some unlit lanes – I’d only put this gear on for road safety reasons! 😀

Incidentally the pants record can be found here 😀
