I would strongly advise any Western tourists (or TBH anyone who doesn’t have a genuine need to visit such as family living there) to give this entire country a very wide berth until this is all over (and the war could go on for years as Duerterte shows no sign of backing down). Bear in mind unlike other neighbouring countries the Phillipines has similar gun laws to USA making private firearm ownership extremely commonplace – and TBH before this all kicked off folk were regularly getting shot anyway simply for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
