yes i know my hands are dirty so save your breath. i would really like an outside opinion on these mushrooms and whether or not they are liberty caps. so help me out here.

I’m no mushroom expert but I’m thinking no. The gills (the underside of the mushroom’s head) should I believe be a brownish colour. In you pictures those gills seem too white/pale to be liberties.

The one at the bottom of the pic looks like a possibility as it has the pronounced nipple on top that libbies have. The top one doesn’t appear to have that nipple, possibly just the angle of the photo though.

Are you based in UK because we’re at the wrong time of the year for mushroom season here; which is a further indication that they’re not.

There are others here though that know more about mycology and may provide a more informative answer.

I am in the US in Ohio. So I’m honestly not sure if we are in the same time zone. And thank you for the advice!

Well mushroom season for liberty caps is late autumn/fall. Also where did you find them; field or woodland?

    no

I actually found them growing in a rotting log. Which leads me to believe that they aren’t liberty caps. Oh well! I will resume my search in the fall. Thanks!

Na they not what you’re looking for. Liberties grow in shortish grass in fields.
